SADQA CHARITY SPECIAL
CHARITY SPECIAL
(1) Obligatory on every joint every day
with small acts of charity
(72) CHAPTER. The superiority of him who
carries the luggage of his companions during a journey;
Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56,
Number 2891:
Narrated

The
Prophet (s) said, "Charity is obligatory every day on every joint of a
human being. If one helps a person in matters concerning his riding animal by
helping him to ride it or by lifting his luggage on to it, all this will be
regarded charity. A good word, and every step one takes to offer the compulsory
Congregational prayer, is regarded as charity; and guiding somebody on the road
is regarded as charity."
(2) Charity significance & value
Bukhari
Volume 8, Book 78, Number 6022:
Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari:
The Prophet (s) said, "On every
Muslim there is enjoined (a compulsory) Sadaqa (alms)." They (the people)
said, "if one has nothing?' He said,
"He should work with his hands so that he may benefit himself and give in
charity." They said, "If he cannot work or
does not work?" He said, "Then he should help the oppressed
unhappy person (by word or action or both)." They
said, "If he does not do it?" He said, "then he should
enjoin what is good (or said what is reasonable).' They
said, "If he does not do that''' He said, "Then he should
refrain from doing evil, for that will be considered as a Sadaqa for him
(charity)."
Note: Patience on part of
Prophet (s) when teaching & inquisitiveness on part of Companions when
learning is worth noting.
(3) Different forms of charity but compulsory
Bukhari Volume 8, Book 78, Number
6022:
Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari:
The Prophet (s) said, "On every
Muslim there is enjoined (a compulsory) Sadaqa (alms)." They (the people)
said, "If one has nothing?' He said,
"He should work with his hands so that he may benefit himself and give in
charity." They said, "If he cannot work or
does not work?" He said, "Then he should help the oppressed
unhappy person (by word or action or both)." They
said, "If he does not do it?" He said, "then he should
enjoin what is good (or said what is reasonable).' They
said, "If he does not do that''' He said, "Then he should
refrain from doing evil, for that will be considered for Him as a Sadqa
(charity)."

The Prophet (s) said, "(Then) fast for two successive months
continuously". The man said, "I cannot do that." The Prophet (s)
said, "(Then) feed sixty poor persons." The man said, "I have
nothing (to feed them with)." Then a big basket full of dates was brought
to the Prophet (s). The Prophet (s) said, "Where is the questioner? Go and
give this in charity." The man said, "(Shall I give this in charity)
to a poorer person than l? By Allah, there is no family in between these two
mountains (of Medina) who are poorer than we." The Prophet (s) then smiled
till his premolar teeth became visible, and said, "Then (feed) your
(family with it). [See Volume 3,
Ahadith Nos. 1936, 1937]

nature of Prophet (s) is worth noting here.

Allah's Messenger (s) said, Al-Maskin (the poor) is
not the one who goes round the people and asks them for a mouthful or two (of

(the poor) is that who has not enough (money) to
satisfy his needs and whose condition is not known to others, that others may
give him something in charity.

nobody would accept it.
Bukhari

I heard
Allah's Messenger (s) saying, "Give in
charity because there will come a time on the
people when a person will go out with his alms from place to place but
will not find anybody to accept
it."
Bukhari
Volume 2, Book 24, Number 1411:
Narrated
Haritha bin Wahab:
I
heard the Prophet (s) saying, "O people! Give in charity as a time will
come upon you when a person will wander about with his object of charity and
will not find anybody to accept it, and one (who will be requested to take it)
will say, "If you had brought it yesterday, would have taken it, but
to-day I am not in need of it."
Bukhari
Volume 4, Book 61, Number 3595:
Narrated 'Adi bin Hatim:
While I was in the city of the
Prophet (s), a man came and complained to him (the Prophet) of destitution and
poverty. Then another man came and complained of robbery (by highwaymen). The
Prophet (s) said, "Adi! Have you been to Al-Hira?" I said, "I
haven't been to it, but I was informed about it." He
said, "If you should live for a long time, you will certainly see that a
lady in a Howdah traveling from Al-Hira will (safely reach Mecca and) perform
the Tawaf of the Ka'ba, fearing none but Allah." I said to myself,
"What will happen to the robbers of the tribe of Tai who have spread evil
throughout the country?" The Prophet (s) further said. "If you should
live long, the treasures of Khosrau will be opened (and taken as spoils)."
I asked, "You mean Khosrau, son of Hurmuz?" He said, "Khosrau,
son of Hurmuz; and if you should live long, you will
see that one will carry a handful of gold or silver and go out looking for a
person to accept it from him, but will find none to accept it from him.
And any of you, when meeting Allah, will meet Him without needing an
interpreter between him and Allah to interpret for him, and, Allah will say to him:
'Didn't I send a messenger to teach you?' He will say: 'Yes.' Allah will say:
'Didn't I give you wealth and do you favors?' He will say: 'Yes.' Then he will
look to his right and see nothing but Hell, and look to his left and see
nothing but Hell." (This
part is Hadis e Qudsi)
'Adi further said: I heard the
Prophet (s) saying, "Save yourself from the (Hell)
Fire even with half a date (to be given in charity) and if you do not find a
half date, then with a good pleasant word." 'Adi added: (later on)
I saw a lady in a Howdah traveling from Al-Hira till she performed the Tawaf of
the Ka'ba, fearing none but Allah. And I was one of those who opened
(conquered) the treasures of Khosrau, son of Hurmuz. If you should live long,
you will see what the Prophet (s) Abu-l-Qasim had said: 'A person will come out
with a handful of gold...etc.
