Attributes of Allah – Relationship with creation

Note: dark blue are notes while
black is copied from translations of Hadis and red is for Quranic Ayah & to highlight comments and certain parts in translation of “Sahi Bukhari” by Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan.

Strict rules were established by “Muhadiseen”, the Compilers of Hadis to ensure the authenticity of Ahadis. Each Hadis was carefully scrutinized before they decided to include it in their works by mainly checking the age, memory, piety and location of every individual in the chain of narrator, “Asnad” and the very text, “Matan” which qualified strict criterions such as not being against teachings of Quran, an already established Hadis, not against logic and accuracy of time and space, few to mention. Imam Bukhari a pioneer in this field collected some 600,000 Ahadis from which he included only 7397 with 4000 repetitions in his collection well known as SAHIH BUKHARI. However the reader must know that the division into chapters, selecting suitable headings for each chapter and brief introductory comments, where required, are the words of the “Muhadiseen” the Compilers of Ahadis and not that of the Prophet (s).

Therefore with passage of time when copies were being prepared by coming scholars from the original manuscript, the first of its kind, prepared by Bukhari some 12 hundred years ago; strict rules laid down by him for his work, were ensured as far as the content and text, “Matan” of Hadis is concerned. However the latter scholars mostly omitted lengthy chain of narrators for the sake of brevity and felt free to make minor changes in giving own words for headings of the chapters and brief commentary, to the best of their intellect and understanding; being the words of the compilers and not Prophet (s). (Please keep it in mind when reading No 5)

This is a reason that accuracy of the contents of Hadis is maintained till to date in the copies prepared from the works of Bukhari and other compilations such as Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Daoud, Sunan Ibn e Maja, Kitab ul Sunnah of Nisaie and Jami al Tirmizi. This brief insight will greatly help us in understanding the logic in the titles given to the chapters, brief comments and introductory notes given by the compilers with the contents and text of actual Hadis, which at times could raise question in the mind of the reader.

(1) 3 Types of people Allah will neither speak nor purify on Day of Resurrection

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 96, Number 7212: [7446 Volume 9]

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "There will be three types of people whom Allah will neither speak to them on the Day of Resurrection nor will purify them from sins, and they will have a painful punishment: They are,

(1) A man possessed superfluous water (more than he needs) on a way and he withholds it from the travelers.

(2) A man who gives a pledge of allegiance to an Imam (ruler) and gives it only for worldly benefits, if the Imam gives him what he wants, he abides by his pledge, otherwise he does not fulfill his pledge;

(3) And a man who sells something to another man after the 'Asr prayer and swears by Allah (a false oath) that he has been offered so much for it whereupon the buyer believes him and buys it although in fact, the seller has not been offered such a price." (See Hadith No. 2672, Vol. 3)

(2) 3 most hated persons by Allah

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 87, Number 6882:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

The Prophet said, "The most hated persons to Allah are three:

(1) A person who deviates from the right conduct, i.e., an evil doer, in the Haram (sanctuaries of Mecca and Medina);

(2) A person who seeks that the traditions of the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance, should remain in Islam

(3) And a person who seeks to shed somebody's blood without any right."

(3) 7 category of people deserving special shade on the Day of Resurrection

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6479:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said Allah will give shade to seven (types of people) under His Shade (on the Day of Resurrection). (One of them will be) a person who remembers Allah and his eyes are then flooded with tears.

Bukhari Volume 2, Book 24, Number 1423: [6806 Volume 8]

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (s) said, "Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. They are:

(1) A just ruler;

(2) A young man who has been brought up in the worship of Allah, (i.e. worship Allah (Alone) sincerely from his childhood),

(3) A man whose heart is attached to the mosque (who offers the five compulsory congregational prayers in the mosque);

(4) Two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only;

(5) A man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for an illegal sexual intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah;

(6) A person who practices charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity).

(7) A person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes get flooded with tears."

(4) 99 “Asma ul Hussna” Attributes of Allah

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 80, Number 6410:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah has ninety-nine Asma (Names), i.e., one hundred minus one, and whoever believes in their meanings and acts accordingly, will enter Paradise; and Allah is Witr (one) and loves 'the Witr' (i.e., odd numbers).

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7392:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "Allah has ninety-nine Asma (Names), one-hundred less one; and he who memorized them all by heart will enter Paradise." To count something means to know it by heart.

Translator’s Note:

  1. Imam Bukhari knows very well the Ahadith mentioning in detail the ninety nine Asma (Names) of Allah quoted by Tirmidi but that Hadith did not come up to the standard of his selection of Sahih Al-Bukhari so he took Allah's Asma (Names) from the Ayahs of the Qur'an, either as adjectives or from the verbs of the Ayahs or from the Prophet's Sunnah.
  2. Memorizing Allah's Asma (Names) means to believe in those Qualities of Allah derived from those Asma (Names) and should be accompanied by good deeds which Allah's Asma (Names) inspire us to do. Just knowing Allah's Asma (Names) by heart will not make a vicious man enter Paradise. Therefore, the word 'memorized' in the Hadith means to behave in accordance with the implications of Allah's Asma (Names)

(5) Allah is The Creator rest everything visible and invisible is creation of Allah

It’s really important to clarify little muddle caused by latter scholars copying from copies of original manuscripts, obviously not available to all. There explanation further confused the issue under discussion in HADIS, the words of the Prophet (s), obviously requiring extreme care before the reader goes askance. Latter scholars perhaps missed out the finer aspects of Arabic genre in vogue at the time of the Prophet (s) well understood only by venerated scholars like Imam Bukhari, noting down the words of the Prophet (s) without hesitation.

 Volume 9, Page 309

 (21) CHAPTER. The Statement of Allah "Say (0’ Muhammad: 'What thing is the most great in witness?' Say: 'Allah...' (6:19)

So Allah calls Himself a Thing. (Note 1) The Prophet (s) calls the Qur’an a Thing (Note 2); and it is one of the Siffat, the Attributes of Allah. And Allah said: "...Everything will perish save His Face... (28:88) [Copy pasted from Volume 9, page 309, Sahi Bukhari translated by Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan]

Note 1: Arabic words in this Ayah 6:19, Qul ayyu sha’yin akbaru shahaadatan qulil laahu shaheedum bainee wa bainakum word shay’in”, THING is used for the sahadah”, WITNESS and not for ONE who is witnessing.

Note 2: This is also clear from stated fact in above statement about Quran by the Prophet (s) which too is meant for some portion of Quran and NOT Quran; note the words anything of the Qur'an as mentioned in Hadis 7417 below, as such the above introductory statement could be an error on the part of latter compilers making copies from the original manuscript prepared by honorable Imam Bukhari, some 1200 years ago; overlooked by all translator’s as this is also confirmed from Urdu translation by Muhammad Daud Raz.

Note 3: Same is confirmed from Hadis 5149 giving detailed account of Hadis only referred partly in Hadis 7417. Prophet (s) is asking, "Do you know something of the Quran (by heart)”. In another Hadis 7449 given below word THING is used for the CREATION, His created things”, how can The Creator and His creation be called same as a THING”.

Note 4: In this regard points raised in Note 1 & 2, above are made crystal clear when reading the comprehensive comments by honorable Imam Bukhari on Hadis number 7452 which precisely lays down in most accurate words the True Essence of the Absolute Creator Allah (SWT).  At the same time this also shows indisputable belief, deep acumen and vast knowledge of the honorable scholar about The Creator and His Creative Activity. This Hadis is noted at the end, confirms beyond doubt, that the “observations” about the introductory statement on chapter 21(Volume 9, Page 309) is an error on the part of latter compilers making copies from the original manuscript prepared by honorable Imam Bukhari, some 1200 years ago. [Hadis7452 Page 334]

Note 5: Relationship of The Creator and creation is made manifest at so many places in so many ways in Quran, being a fundamental themes of Quran, Arabic word “Shay” , thing is used at so many places in Quran to identify this relationship between The Creator and His creation..

“Say: O Allah, Master of the Kingdom! Thou givest the kingdom to whomsoever Thou pleasest and takest away the kingdom from whomsoever Thou pleasest, and Thou exaltest whom Thou pleasest and abasest whom Thou pleasest in Thine hand is the good; surety, Thou hast power over all things.Innaka ala Kully Sha’yin Qadeer (3:26)

“O’ you who believe; turn to Allah a sincere turning; maybe your Lord will remove from you your evil and cause you to enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, on the day on which Allah will not abase the Prophet and those who believe with him; their light shall run on before them and on their right hands; they shall say: Our Lord; make perfect for us our light, and grant us protection, surely Thou hast power over all things.” Innaka ala Kully Shay’in Qadeer (66:8)

Our word for a thing when We intend it, is only that We say to it, Be, and it is. 'Innama qawluna li-shay'in 'iza 'aradnahu 'an naqoula lahou Kun-Faya-koun (16:40)

It is worth noting that regarding Rooh, soul the Quranic connotation is different; And they ask you about the soul. Say: The soul is one of the commands (Amar) of my Lord, and you are not given aught of knowledge but a little.” (17:85)

(51) CHAPTER. To marry (a lady to) a man for what he knows of the Qur'an (by heart) and without paying any Mahr.

Bukhari Bukhari Volume 7, Book 67, Number 5149: [5871]

Narrated Sahl bin Sad As-Sa'idi:

While I was (sitting) among the people in the company of Allah's Apostle a woman stood up and said, "O Allah's Apostle! She has given herself in marriage to you; please give your opinion of her." The Prophet did not give her any reply. She again stood up and said, "O Allah's Apostle! She has given herself (in marriage) to you; so please give your opinion of her. The Prophet did not give her any reply. She again stood up for the third time and said, "She has given herself in marriage to you: so give your opinion of her." So a man stood up and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Marry her to me." The Prophet asked him, "Have you got anything?" He said, "No." The Prophet said, "Go and search for something, even if it were an iron ring." The man went and searched and then returned saying, "I could not find anything, not even an iron ring." Then the Prophet said, "Do you know something of the Quran (by heart)?" He replied, "I know (by heart) such Surah and such Surah." The Prophet said, "Go! I have married her to you for what you know of the Quran (by heart)."

Volume 9, Page 334-335

(27) CHAPTER. What has been said regarding the creation “Takhleeq” of the heavens and the earth and other created beings “wa ghaireha min khalaiq”.

All that is the work “Fail” of the Lord and outcome of His Order “Amrohu”. So He is the Lord

with His Attributes “be Siffathu” and His Actions “wa Fa’alhu”, and His Order “wa Amrahu”; and He is the Creator and the Maker “wa Huwa Khalikal-Mukawwanu”, and He is not created “ghairo Makhluqin”. And whatever exists through His Action, Command, creating and making “wama kana be Failhu wa Amrehu wa Takhliqhu wa Takwinhu” is something done, created and made “Fahuwa Maf’olu Makhlqu Makawwan”.

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7452:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

Once I stayed overnight at the house of (my aunt ) Maimuna while the Prophet was with her, to see how was the night prayer of Allah s Apostle Allah's Apostle talked to his wife for a while and then slept. When it was the last third of the night (or part of it), the Prophet got up and looked towards the sky and recited the Verse: 'Verily! In the creation of the Heavens and the Earth....there are indeed signs for the men of understanding.' (3.190)

Then He got up and performed the ablution, brushed his teeth and offered eleven Rakat. Then Bilal pronounced the Adhan whereupon the Prophet offered a two-Rak'at (Sunna) prayer and went out to lead the people in Fajar (morning compulsory congregational prayer.

(6) When Allah loves His slave Orders Gabriel Jibril to announce in Heavens

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 78, Number 6040: [See 3209 Volume 4]

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, "If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel saying: 'Allah loves so and so; O Gabriel, love him.' Gabriel would love him, and then Gabriel would make an announcement among the residents of the Heaven, 'Allah loves so-and-so, therefore, you should love him also.' So, all the residents of the Heavens would love him and then he is granted the pleasure of the people of the earth."

 (7) Allah ways of revelation Prophet (s) NOT seen Allah 42:51-53

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 65, Number 4855:

Narrated Masruq:

I said to 'Aisha, "O Mother! Did Prophet Muhammad see his Lord?" Aisha said, "What you have said makes my hair stand on end! Know that if somebody tells you one of the following three things, he is a liar: Whoever tells you that Muhammad saw his Lord, is a liar." Then Aisha recited the Ayah; 'No vision can grasp Him, but His grasp is over all vision. He is the Most Courteous Well-Acquainted with all things.' (6:103)

Explanation of Quran (Tafseer)

“It 78 is not given to any mortal that Allah should speak to him, face to face. He speaks either through revelation (secret instruction),79 or from behind a veil,80 or He sends a messenger (an angel), who by His Command, reveals whatever He wills.81 He is the Exalted, the All-Wise.82 Even so We have, (O Muhammad), revealed a Spirit to you by Our Command.83 You did not know at all what was the Book and what Was the Faith,84 but We made that Spirit a light by which We show the way to any of Our servants We will. You are indeed guiding to the Right Way, the Way of God, to Whom belongs everything in the heavens and the earth. Beware! All affairs tend to Allah alone! 85(42:51-53)

'Aisha further said, "And whoever tells you that the Prophet (s) knows what is going to happen tomorrow is a liar." She then recited; 'No soul can know what it will earn tomorrow.' (31:34)

She added: "And whoever tells you that he concealed (some of Allah's orders), is a liar." Then she recited; 'O Apostle! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord....’ (5:67)

Aisha added. "But the Prophet saw Gabriel in his true form twice." (53:7 & 81:23)

(8) Allah on Day of Judgment - will address all His creation without interpreter

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7512:

Narrated 'Adi bin Hatim:

Allah's Apostle (s) said, "There will be none among you but his Lord will talk to him, and there will be no interpreter between him and Allah. He will look to his right and see nothing but his deeds which he has sent forward, and will look to his left and see nothing but his deeds which he has sent forward, and will look in front of him and see nothing but the (Hell) Fire facing him. So save yourself from the (Hell) Fire even with half a date (given in charity)." Al-A'mash said: 'Amr bin Murra said, Khaithama narrated the same and added, '...even with a good word.' "

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6539:

Narrated 'Adi bin Hatim:

The Prophet (s) said, "There will be none among you but will be talked to by Allah on the Day of Resurrection, without there being an interpreter between him and Him (Allah). He will look and see nothing ahead of him, and then he will look (again for the second time) in front of him, and the (Hell) Fire will confront him. So, whoever among you can save himself from the Fire, should do so even with one half of a date (to give in charity)."

(9) Allah will speak to His creation except THREE categories of people

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7443:

Narrated 'Adi bin Hatim:

Allah's Apostle said, "There will be none among you but his Lord will speak to him, and there will be neither interpreter between them nor a screen to screen Him." (See H. 1413, 3595)

(10) Mercy of Allah – Will Speak to His creation on Day of Judgment.

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7511:

Narrated 'Abdullah:

Allah's Apostle said, "The person who will be the last one to enter Paradise and the last to come out of Hell (Fire) will be a man who will come out crawling, and his Lord will say to him, 'Enter Paradise.' He will reply, 'O Lord, Paradise is full.' Allah will give him the same order thrice, and each time the man will give Him the same reply, i.e., 'Paradise is full.' Thereupon Allah will say (to him), 'Ten times of the world is for you.'

Three types of people Allah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor will purify them from sins, and they will have a painful punishment.

(2) A man who gives a pledge of allegiance to an Imam (ruler) and gives it only for worldly benefits, if the Imam gives him what he wants, he abides by his pledge, otherwise he does not fulfill his pledge;

(3) And a man who sells something to another man after the 'Asr prayer and swears by Allah (a false oath) that he has been offered so much for it whereupon the buyer believes him and buys it although in fact, the seller has not been offered such a price." (See Hadith No. 2672, Vol. 3)

Note: Allah will speak to His creation.

(11) Save yourself from the fire of (Hell), even with half a date, (given in charity) or even with a good word;

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7512:

Narrated 'Adi bin Hatim:

Allah's Apostle said, "There will be none among you but his Lord will talk to him, and there will be no interpreter between him and Allah. He will look to his right and see nothing but his deeds which he has sent forward, and will look to his left and see nothing but his deeds which he has sent forward, and will look in front of him and see nothing but the (Hell) Fire facing him. So save yourself from the (Hell) Fire even with half a date (given in charity)." Al-A'mash said: 'Amr bin Murra said, Khaithama narrated the same and added, 'even with a good word.'

(12) Allegorical “Mutshabeh” Terms used for Attributes of Allah 28:8 55:26-27

(16) CHAPTER. The Statement of Allah "...Everything will perish save His Wajih” Countenance Face..." (28:88) [That means that Allah will never perish]

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7406:

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

When the (following) Ayah was revealed to Allah's Apostle:

'Say: He has power to send torment on you from above,' (6.65) Prophet (s) said, "O Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (from that punishment)."

And when this was revealed: …. or from beneath your feet.' (6.65) Prophet (s) said, "O Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (from that)."

And when this Ayah was revealed: '…..or to cover you with confusion in party-strife, and make you to taste the violence of one another,'... (6.65)

Prophet (s) said: "These two warnings are easier (than the previous ones)."

Translator’s Note: (Ch 16) All that which has been revealed in Allah's Book [the Qur’an] as regards the [Siffat] attributes, Qualities of Allah the Most High, like His “Wajih” Face, Eyes, Hands, Shins (Legs),  His Coming, His Rising over His Throne (Istawa) and others, or all that Allah's Messenger  qualified Him in the true authentic Prophet's Ahadith (narrations) as regards His Qualities like  [Nuzül], His Descent or His Laughing and others. The religious scholars of the Qur'an and the Sunnah believe in these Qualities of Allah and they confirm that these are really His Qualities, without [Ta'wil] interpreting their meanings into different things, or [Tashbi] giving resemblance or similarity to any of the creatures, or [Tatil] or denying them (i.e., completely ignoring i.e. there is no Face, or Eyes or Hands, or Shins for Allah). These Qualities befit or suit only for Allah Alone, and He does not resemble to any of (His) creatures. As Allah's Statement (in the Qur'an): [1]"There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer." (42:11) [2] "There is none comparable unto Him." (112:4).

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 96, Number 7313: [7406 Volume 9]

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

When the (following) Verse was revealed to Allah's Apostle:

'Say: He has power to send torment on you from above,'... (6.65) he said, "O Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (from that punishment)." And when this was revealed;

'...or from beneath your feet.' (6.65) he said, "O Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (from that)." And when this Verse was revealed;

'...or to cover you with confusion in party-strife, and make you to taste the violence of one another,'... (6.65) he said: "These two warnings are easier (than the previous ones)."

(17) CHAPTER. The Statement of Allah "...In order that you [0’ Musa (Moses)] may be brought up under My Eye, (20:39) and also the Statement of Allah) "Floating under Our Eyes (i.e., the boat of Noah)..." (54:14)

Translator’s Note: (Ch.17) this reflects the refuting by Bukhari of the dogma of certain Islamic sects, that deny that Allah has a Face, or Eyes etc.

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7407:

Narrated 'Abdullah:

Ad-Dajjal was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet (s) The Prophet said, "Allah is not hidden from you; He is not one-eyed," and pointed with his hand towards his eye, adding, "while  Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal is blind in the right eye and his eye looks like a protruding grape."

 Quran on the topic

“There is no deity but He. Everything is perishable except Himself: Sovereignty is His, 112 and to Him will all of you be returned.” (28:88)

“All 25 that exist on the earth shall perish. Only your Lord, possessed of majesty and honor, shall endure forever” (55:26-27)

“All that lives on earth or in the heavens (Note 10) is bound to pass away: but forever will abide thy Sustainer's SELF “Wajih” (Note 11) full of majesty and glory.” (55:26-27)

Note 10: Literally; "Everyone who is upon it", i.e. on earth and or, according to Ibn Kathir, in the heavens - since the pronoun in 'alayha apparently relates to the whole universe.

Note 11: Literally "face", or "countenance", a term used metonymically in classical Arabic to denote the "SELF."

 (13) Charity is compensated by Allah

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7495-7496:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but will be the foremost on the Day of Resurrection." The narrators of this Hadith said: Allah said (to man), 'Spend (in charity), for then I will compensate you (generously).' "

(14) Dialogue with the people on Day of Judgment

(8) CHAPTER. “Surely! Allah wrongs not (any of His creation) even of the weight of an atom” (4:40)

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 65, Number 4581:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

During the lifetime of the Prophet (s) some people said: O Allah's Apostle! Shall we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" The Prophet said, "Yes; do you have any difficulty in seeing the sun at midday when it is bright and there is no cloud in the sky?" They replied, "No." He said, "Do you have any difficulty in seeing the moon on a full moon night when it is bright and there is no cloud in the sky?" They replied, "No." The Prophet said, "(Similarly) you will have no difficulty in seeing Allah on the Day of Resurrection as you have no difficulty in seeing either of them. On the Day of Resurrection, a call-maker will announce, "Let every nation follow that which they used to worship." Then none of those who used to worship anything other than Allah like idols and other deities but will fall in Hell (Fire), till there will remain none but those who used to worship Allah, both those who were obedient (i.e. good) and those who were disobedient (i.e. bad) and the remaining party of the people of the Scripture. Then the Jews will be called upon and it will be said to them, 'Who do you use to worship?' They will say, 'We used to worship Ezra, the son of Allah.' It will be said to them, 'You are liars, for Allah has never taken anyone as a wife or a son. What do you want now?' They will say, 'O our Lord! We are thirsty, so give us something to drink.' They will be directed and addressed thus, 'Will you drink,' whereupon they will be gathered unto Hell (Fire) which will look like a mirage whose different sides will be destroying each other. Then they will fall into the Fire. Afterwards the Christians will be called upon and it will be said to them, 'Who do you use to worship?' They will say, 'We used to worship Jesus, the son of Allah.' It will be said to them, 'You are liars, for Allah has never taken anyone as a wife or a son,' Then it will be said to them, 'What do you want?' They will say what the former people have said. Then, when there remain (in the gathering) none but those who used to worship Allah (Alone, the real Lord of the Worlds) whether they were obedient or disobedient. Then (Allah) the Lord of the worlds will come to them in a shape nearest to the picture they had in their minds about Him. It will be said, 'What are you waiting for?' Every nation has followed what they used to worship.' They will reply, 'We left the people in the world when we were in great need of them and we did not take them as friends. Now we are waiting for our Lord Whom we used to worship.' Allah will say, 'I am your Lord.' They will say twice or thrice, 'We do not worship any besides Allah.' "

(15) Allah Final Decision Punish or Forgive

(17) CHAPTER. The Statement of Allah "Not for you (0’ Muhammad, but for Allah) is the decision..." (3:128)

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 96, Number 7346:

Narrated Ibn 'Umar:

That he heard the Prophet, after raising his head from the bowing in morning prayer; saying, "O Allah, our Lord! All the praises are for you." and in the last (Rak'a) he said, "O Allah! Curse so-and-so and so--and-so." And then Allah revealed: 'Not for you (O Muhammad) is the decision, (but for Allah), whether He turns in mercy to them or punishes them, for they are indeed wrongdoers.' (3.128)

(16) Good words ascend towards Allah good deeds lift them up 35:10

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7430:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "If somebody gives in charity something equal to a date from his honestly earned money - for nothing ascends to Allah except good - then Allah will take it in His Right (Hand) and bring it up for its owner as anyone of you brings up a baby horse, till it becomes like a mountain."

Abu Huraira also said: The Prophet (s) said, "Nothing ascends to Allah except good." Whoever desires honor, then to Allah belongs the honor wholly.

Quran on the topic

“Whoever seeks honor should know that the honor wholly belongs to Allah. 20 Only the pure Word rises up to Him, and the righteous deed causes it to rise. 21 As for those who plot evil, 22 there is a severe torment for them, and their plotting shall itself perish.” (35:10)

(17) Honor Ghaira Allah Great Loves Praises

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7403:

Narrated 'Abdullah:

The Prophet (s) said, "There is none having a greater sense of “Ghira” (feeling of fury and anger when one's honor or prestige is injured or challenged) than Allah, and for that reason He has forbidden shameful deeds and sins (illegal sexual intercourse etc.) And there is none who likes to be praised more than Allah does." [See Hadith No. 5220, 5223, Volume 7]

 (20) CHAPTER. The statement of the Prophet (s) "No person has more “Ghaira” than Allah”

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7416:

Narrated Al-Mughira:

Sa'd bin 'Ubada said, "If I saw a man with my wife, I would strike him (behead him) with the blade of my sword." This news reached Allah's Apostle who then said, "You people are astonished at Sa'd's Ghira. By Allah, I have more Ghira than he, and Allah has more “Ghira(feeling of fury and anger when one's honor or prestige is injured or challenged) than I, and because of Allah's “Ghira”, He has made unlawful Shameful deeds and sins (illegal sexual intercourse etc.) done in open and in secret. And there is none who likes that the people should repent to Him and beg His pardon than Allah, and for this reason He sent the warners and the givers of good news. And there is none who likes to be praised more than Allah does, and for this reason, Allah promised to grant Paradise (to the doers of good)." 'Abdul Malik said, "No person has more “Ghira” than Allah."

Bukhari Volume 7, Book 67, Number 5220:

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Masud:

The Prophet, said, "There is none having a greater sense of Ghira than Allah. And for that He has forbidden the doing of evil actions (illegal sexual intercourse etc.) There is none who likes to be praised more than Allah does."

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, "Allah says: 'I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.' "

(19) Parables like Throne Hand Face used for Allah & meanings

(2) CHAPTER. "Say: He has power to send torment on you from above..." (6:65)

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 65, Number 4628:

Narrated Jabir:

When this Ayah was revealed: "Say: He has power to send torment on you from above. (6:65), Allah's Messenger said, "0’ Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (Note) (from this punishment)." And when the Verse: "...Or (send torment) from under your feet....., (was revealed), Allah's Messenger said, "(0’ Allah!) I seek refuge with Your Face (from this punishment)". (But when there was revealed): "...Or to cover you with confusion in party strife, and make you to taste the violence of one another..." (6:65), Allah's Messenger said, "This is lighter (or, this is easier)."

Translator’s Note: All what has been revealed in Allah's Book (the Qur'an) as regards the Sifat” Attributes of Allah the Most High—like His Face, Eyes, Hands, Shins (Legs), His Coming, His “Istawa” (rising over) His Throne and others; His Qualities, or all that Allah's Messenger qualified Him in the true authentic Prophet's Ahadith (narrations) as regards His Qualities like “Nazul” His Descent or His Laughing and others etc. The religious scholars of the Qur'an and the Sunnah believe in these Attributes of Allah and they confirm that these are really His Attributes, without Ta'wilinterpreting their meanings into different things etc. or Tashbih” giving resemblance or similarity to any of the creatures or “Ta’ til” i.e., completely ignoring them i.e., there is no Face, or Eyes or Hands, or Shins etc. for Allah. These Attributes befit or suit only for Allah Alone, and He does not resemble to any of (His) creatures. As Allah's Statements (in the Qur'an): (1) "There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer (42:11). (2) "There is none comparable unto Him" (112:4).

 (17) CHAPTER. The Statement of Allah "...In order that you [0’ Musa (Moses)] may be brought up under My Eye, (V.20:39) and also the Statement of Allah) "Floating under Our Eyes (i.e., the boat of Noah)..." (54:14)

Translator’s Note: (Ch.17) this reflects the refuting of the dogma of certain Islamic sects, that deny that Allah has a Face, or Eyes etc.

“And let it never happen that the unbelievers should divert you 111 from Allah's revelations when they are sent down to you. Invite (the people) towards your Lord and do not join the mushriks, nor tadʿu invoke any deity other than Allah. There is no deity but He. Everything is perishable except wajhahu His Face: Sovereignty is His, 112 and to Him will all of you be returned.” (28:87-88)

“All that exists on earth or in the heavens (Note 10) is bound to pass away: but forever will abide wajhu Countenance thy Sustainer's Self, (Note 11) full of majesty and glory.” (55:26-27)

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 96, Number 7313: [7406 Volume 9]

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah:

When the (following) Verse was revealed to Allah's Apostle:

'Say: He has power to send torment on you from above,'... (6.65) he said, "O Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (from that punishment)." And when this was revealed;

'...or from beneath your feet.' (6.65) he said, "O Allah! I seek refuge with Your Face (from that)." And when this Verse was revealed;

'...or to cover you with confusion in party-strife, and make you to taste the violence of one another,'... (6.65) he said: "These two warnings are easier (than the previous ones)."

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 78, Number 6099:

(3) CHAPTER. The Statement of Allah; "Verily Allah is the All-Provider, Owner of

Power, the Most Strong." (51:58)

The Prophet (s) said, "Allah said, 'The son of Adam tells a lie against Me, though he has no right to do so; and he abuses Me, though he has no right to do so. As for his telling a lie against Me, it is that he claims that I cannot recreate him as I created him before and as for his abusing Me, it is his statement that I have a son (children or offspring etc.). No! Glorified be Me! I am far from taking a wife or a son (or offspring).'"

 (21) Allah pleased with repentance of His slave

(4) CHAPTER. At-Tauba (turning to Allah in repentance);

Qatada said, "...Turn to Allah with sincere repentance...' (66:8) means true and constructive repentance.”

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 80, Number 6308:

Narrated Al-Harith bin Suwaid:

'Abdullah bin Mas'ud related to us two narrations: One from the Prophet and the other from himself, saying: A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which, he is afraid, may fall on him; whereas the wicked person considers his sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like this." Abu Shihab (the sub-narrator) moved his hand over his nose in illustration. (Ibn Mas'ud added): Allah's Apostle said, "Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than a man who encamps at a place where his life is jeopardized, but he has his riding beast carrying his food and water. He then rests his head and sleeps for a short while and wakes to find his riding beast gone. (He starts looking for it) and suffers from severe heat and thirst or what Allah wished (him to suffer from). He then says, 'I will go back to my place.' He returns and sleeps again, and then (getting up), he raises his head to find his riding beast standing beside him."

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 80, Number 6309:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

Allah's Apostle said, "Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than anyone of you is pleased with finding his camel which he had lost in the desert."

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 60, Number 3470:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

The Prophet said, "Amongst the men of Bani Israel there was a man who had murdered ninety-nine persons. Then he set out asking (whether his repentance could be accepted or not). He came upon a monk and asked him if his repentance could be accepted. The monk replied in the negative and so the man killed him. He kept on asking till a man advised to go to such and such village. (So he left for it) but death overtook him on the way. While dying, he turned his chest towards that village (where he had hoped his repentance would be accepted), and so the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment quarrelled amongst themselves regarding him. Allah ordered the village (towards which he was going) to come closer to him, and ordered the village (whence he had come), to go far away, and then He ordered the angels to measure the distances between his body and the two villages. So he was found to be one span closer to the village (he was going to). So he was forgiven."

(22) Raises and lowers whomever Allah wills

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7411:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle (s) said, "Allah's Hand is full, and (its fullness) is not affected by the continuous spending, day and night." He also said, "Do you see what He has spent since He created the Heavens and the Earth? Yet all that has not decreased what is in His Hand." He also said, "His Throne is over the water and in His other Hand is the balance (of Justice) and He raises and lowers (whomever He will)." [See Hadith No.4684, Volume 6]

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7419:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (s) said, "The Right (Hand) of Allah Is full, and (Its fullness) is not affected by the continuous spending night and day. Do you see what He has spent since He created the Heavens and the Earth? Yet all that has not decreased what is in His Right Hand. His Throne is over the water and in His other Hand is the Bounty or the Power to bring about death, and He raises some people and brings others down."

(23) Rights of Allah - fulfill personal obligations first e.g. Debt etc.

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 96, Number 7315:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

A woman came to the Prophet (s) and said, "My mother vowed to perform the Hajj but she died before performing it. Should I perform the Hajj on her behalf?" He said, "Yes! Perform the Hajj on her behalf. See, if your mother had been in debt, would you have paid her debt?" She said, "Yes." He said, "So you should pay what is for Him as Allah has more right that one should fulfill one's obligations to Him."

(24) Allah's right on His slave Tuhid slave’ right forgiveness

Bukhari Volume 7, Book 77, Number 5967: [2856, 5013, 6267, 6500 Volume 8 Volume 9 No 7373]

Narrated Mu'adh bin Jabal

While I was riding behind the Prophet and between me and him and between me and him there was only the back of the saddle, he said, "0’ Mu'adh!" I replied, "Labbaik, 0’ Allah's Apostle, and Sa'daik!" he said, "Do you know what Allah’s right upon His slave is?" I said, "Allah and His Apostle know best" He said "Allah's right upon his slaves is that they should worship Him alone and not worship anything else besides Him." Then he proceeded for a while and then said, "O’ Muadh bin Jabal!" I replied, "Labbaik, O’ Allah's Apostle: Sa'daik!' He said, "Do you know what the right of the slaves upon Allah is if they do that?" I replied, "Allah and His Apostle know best." He said, "The right of the slaves upon Allah is that He will not punish them (if they do that)."

(25) Allah screens sin as in the world - Up to Allah whether to excuse or punish

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 86, Number 6784: [7213 Volume 9]

Narrated 'Ubada bin As-Samit:

We were with the Prophet in a gathering and he said, 'Swear allegiance to me that you will not worship anything besides Allah, Will not steal, and will not commit illegal sexual intercourse." And then (the Prophet) recited the whole Verse (i.e. 60:12), Prophet added, 'And whoever among you fulfills his pledge, his reward is with Allah; and whoever commits something of such sins and receives the legal punishment for it, that will be considered as the expiation for that sin, and whoever commits something of such sins and Allah screens him, it is up to Allah whether to excuse or punish him."

(60) CHAPTER. (It is recommended that) a believer should conceal what sins he may commit.

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 78, Number 6069:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah's Apostle saying. "All the sins of my followers will be forgiven except those of the Mujahirin (those who commit a sin openly or disclose their sins to the people). An example of such disclosure is that a person commits a sin at night and though Allah screens it from the public, then he comes in the morning, and says, 'O so-and-so, I did such-and-such (evil) deed yesterday,' though he spent his night screened by his Lord (none knowing about his sin) and in the morning he removes Allah's screen from himself."

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 65, Number 4685:

Narrated Safwan bin Muhriz:

While Ibn Umar was performing the Tawaf (around the Ka'ba), a man came up to him and said, "O Abu 'AbdurRahman!" or said, "O Ibn Umar! Did you hear anything from the Prophet about An-Najwa?" Ibn 'Umar said, "I heard the Prophet saying, 'The Believer will be brought near his Lord." (Hisham, a sub-narrator said, reporting the Prophet's words), "The believer will come near (his Lord) till his Lord covers him with His screen and makes him confess his sins. (Allah will ask him), 'Do you know (that you did) 'such-and-such sin?" He will say twice, 'Yes, I do.' Then Allah will say, 'I concealed it in the world and I forgive it for you today.' Then the record of his good deeds will be folded up. As for the others, or the disbelievers, it will be announced publicly before the witnesses: 'These are ones who lied against their Lord."

(2) CHAPTER. The Statement of Allah; "... No doubt! The curse of Allah is on the Zalimun  (polytheists, oppressors, and the wrong-doers) (V.11:18)

Bukhari Volume 3, Book 46, Number 2441:

While I was walking with Ibn 'Umar holding his hand, a man came in front of us and asked, "What have you heard from Allah's Apostle about An-Najwa?" Ibn 'Umar said, "I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'Allah will bring a believer near Him and shelter him with His Screen and ask him: Did you commit such-and-such sins? He will say: Yes, my Lord. Allah will keep on asking him till he will confess all his sins and will think that he is ruined. Allah will say: 'I did screen your sins in the world and I forgive them for you today', and then he will be given the book of his good deeds. Regarding infidels and hypocrites (their evil acts will be exposed publicly) and the witnesses will say: These are the people who lied against their Lord. Behold! The Curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers." (11.18)

(26) See your Lord as see full moon with curtain of Majesty

“Some faces that Day shall be shining looking at their Lord (Allah)” (75:22, 23)

We were sitting with the Prophet (s) and he looked at the moon on the night of the full moon and said, "You people shall see your Lord as you see this full moon, and you will have no difficulty or trouble in seeing Him, so if you can avoid missing (through sleep or business, etc.) a Salat (prayer) before sunrise (Fajr) and a Salat before sunset ('Asr) you must do so." (See Hadith No. 554, Vol. 1)

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7444:

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Qais:

The Prophet said, "(There will be) two Paradises of silver and all the utensils and whatever is therein (will be of silver); and two Paradises of gold, and its utensils and whatever therein (will be of gold), and there will be nothing to prevent the people from seeing their Lord except the Cover of Majesty over His Face in the Paradise of Eden (eternal bliss)."

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7443:

Narrated 'Adi bin Hatim:

Allah's Apostle said, "There will be none among you but his Lord will speak to him, and there will be neither interpreter between them nor a screen to screen Him." (See H. 1413, 3595)

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 97, Number 7435:

Narrated Jarir bin 'Abdullah:

The Prophet said, "You will definitely see your Lord with your own eyes."

(1) CHAFFER. The Statement of Allah; "And besides these two, there are two other gardens (i.e., in Paradise)." (V.55:62)

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 65, Number 4878:

Narrated Abdullah bin Qais:

Allah's Apostle said, "Two gardens, the utensils and the contents of which are of silver, and two other gardens, the utensils and contents of which are of gold. And nothing will prevent the people who will be in the Garden of Eden from seeing their Lord except the curtain of Majesty over His Face."

 (2) CHAPTER. The Statement of Allah; "...And glorify the praises of your Lord, before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting (i.e., the Fajr, Zuhr and 'Asr prayers)." (V.50:39)

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 65, Number 4851:

Narrated Jarir bin Abdullah:

We were in the company of the Prophet on a fourteenth night (of the lunar month), and he looked at the (full) moon and said, "You will see your Lord as you see this moon, and you will have no trouble in looking at Him. So, whoever can should not miss the offering of prayers before sunrise (Fajr prayer) and before sunset (Asr prayer)." Then the Prophet recited:

'And celebrate the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before (its) setting.' (50.39)

(27) Sift attribute of Allah not a thing

Important Note: It’s really important to clarify little muddle caused by latter scholars copying from copies of original manuscripts, obviously not available to all.

Quran

Note: It is worth noting that regarding Rooh, soul the Quranic connotation is different; “And they ask you about the soul.

(28) Son of Adam tells a lie against Me

(8) CHAPTER. They (pagans, Jews and Christians) say: "Allah hath begotten a son: Glory be to Him. Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: everything renders worship to Him.” (2:116)

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 65, Number 4482:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbãs:

The Prophet (s) said, "Allah said, 'The son of Adam tells a lie against Me, though he has no right to do so; and he abuses Me, though he has no right to do so. As for his telling a lie against Me, it is that he claims that I cannot recreate him as I created him before;  and as for his abusing Me, it is his statement that I have a son (children or offspring etc.). No! Glorified be Me! I am far from taking a wife or a son (or offspring).'"

(29) The Creator

Allegorical “Mutshabeh” terms term used metonymically in classical Arabic to denote different attributes of Allah (Subhan wa Tala)

When it was the last third of the night (or part of it), the Prophet got up and looked towards the sky and recited the Verse: 'Verily in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are indeed Signs for men of understanding. (3.190)

Then He got up and performed the ablution, brushed his teeth and offered eleven Rakat. Then Bilal pronounced the Adhan whereupon the Prophet offered a two-Rak'at (Sunnah) prayer and went out to lead the people in Fajar (morning compulsory congregational prayer.

(30) Time blame not creation of Allah

Time is creation of Allah and one must not blame time for one’s own short comings by wasting time (see Hadis 6412 given below)

Bukhari Volume 6, Book 65, Number 4826:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "Allah said, 'the son of Adam hurts me for he abuses Time though I am Time: in My Hands are all things, and I cause the revolution of day and night.' (See Vol. 9, Hadith No. 7491)

(101) CHAPTER: Do not abuse Ad-Dahr (the Time).

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 78, Number 6181:

Narrated AbuHurairah:

Allah's Messenger said, "Allah said, 'the offspring of Adam abuses Ad-Dahr (The Time), and I am Ad-Dahr; in My Hands are the night and the day."

Translator’s Note; 'I am Ad-Dahr' means 'I am the Creator of time, and I manage the affairs of all creation including time.' One should not attribute anything, whether cheerful or disastrous, to time, for everything is in the Hands of Allah, and only He is the Disposer of everything.

MUHAMMAD ASAD: And [so, O Muhammad,] they challenge thee to hasten the coming upon  them of [God's] chastisement: but God never fails to fulfill His promise - and, behold,  in thy Sustainer's sight a day is like a thousand years of your reckoning. (Note 63)

Note 63: I.e., what men conceive of as "time" has no meaning with regard to God, because He is  timeless, without beginning and without end, so that "in relation to Him, one day and a thousand years are alike" (Razi). Cf. 70:4, where in the same sense, a "day" is said to be equal to "fifty thousand years", or the well-authenticated saying of the Prophet, "God says, 'I am Time Absolute (ad-dahr)

(30) Worship moderation Allah tires not man does

Bukhari Volume 3, Book 30, Number 1970:

Narrated 'Aisha:

The Prophet never fasted in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban. He used to say, "Do those deeds which you can do easily, as Allah will not get tired (of giving rewards) till you get bored and tired (of performing religious deeds)." The most beloved prayer to the Prophet was the one that was done regularly (throughout the life) even if it were little. And whenever the Prophet offered a prayer he used to offer it regularly.

(32) Zikar remembrance in gathering excellence

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 80, Number 6408:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah’s Apostle said, "Allah has some angels who look for those who celebrate the Praises of Allah on the roads and paths. And when they find some people celebrating the Praises of Allah, they call each other, saying, and “Come to the object of your pursuit’.” He added, "Then the angels encircle them with their wings up to the sky of the world." He added. "(after those people celebrated the Praises of Allah, and the angels go back), their Lord, asks them (those angels) though He knows better than them 'What do My slaves say?' The angels reply, 'they say: Subhan Allah, Allahu Akbar, and Alham-du-lillah, Allah then says 'Did they see Me?' The angels reply, 'No! By Allah, they didn't see You.'

Allah says, How it would have been if they saw Me?' The angels reply, 'If they saw You, they would worship You more devoutly and celebrate Your Glory more deeply, and declare Your freedom from any resemblance to anything more often.' Allah says (to the angels), 'What do they ask Me for?' The angels reply, 'They ask You for Paradise.' Allah says (to the angels), 'Did they see it?' The angels say, 'No! By Allah, O Lord! They did not see it.' Allah says, How it would have been if they saw it?' The angels say, 'If they saw it, they would have greater covetousness for it and would seek It with greater zeal and would have greater desire for it.' Allah says, 'From what do they seek refuge?' The angels reply, 'They seek refuge from the (Hell) Fire.' Allah says, 'Did they see it?' The angels say, 'No by Allah, O Lord! They did not see it.' Allah says, How it would have been if they saw it?' The angels say, 'If they saw it they would flee from it with the extreme fleeing and would have extreme fear from it.' Then Allah says, 'I make you witnesses that I have forgiven them."' Allah's Apostle added, "One of the angels would say, 'There was so-and-so amongst them, and he was not one of them, but he had just come for some need.' Allah would say, 'These are those people whose companions will not be reduced to misery.' "

(32) Zikar significance like living verses dead.

(66) CHAFFER. The superiority of “Dhikr” of Allah (remembering Allah i.e. glorifying and praising Him)
