COMPANIONS - Ashab-e-Sufa People of Platform

People of Platform
Ahly Sufa

(1) People of Platform “As-Suffa” loved by
Prophet (s)
& special look after

(58) CHAPTER. Sleeping of men in the mosque;

 And narrated Anas:

"Some people of the tribe of 'Ukl came to the Prophet (s) and joined the men of As-Suffa." 'Abdul Rahman bin Abi Bakar said, "Ashab-as-Suffa (People of Platform) were poor people."

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8 (Salah), Number 442:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

I saw seventy of As-Suffa men and none of them had a Rida' (a garment covering the upper part of the body). They had either Izars (only) or sheets which they tied round their necks. Some of these sheets reached the middle of their legs and some reached their heels and they used to gather them with their hands lest their private parts should become naked.

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 9, Number 602:

Narrated Abu 'Uthman:

'Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr said, "The Suffa Companions were poor people and the Prophet (s) said, 'Whoever has food for two persons should take a third one from them (Suffa companions). And whosoever has food for four persons he should take one or two from them' Abu Bakr took three men and the Prophet (s) took ten of them."

'Abdur Rahman added, my father my mother and I were there (in the house). (The sub-narrator is in doubt whether 'Abdur Rahman also said, 'My wife and our servant who was common for both my house and Abu Bakr's house). Abu Bakr took his supper with the Prophet (s) and remained there till the 'Isha' prayer was offered. Abu Bakr went back and stayed with the Prophet (s) till the Prophet (s) took his meal and then Abu Bakr returned to his house after a long portion of the night had passed. Abu Bakr's wife said, 'What detained you from your guests (or guest)?' He said, 'Have you not served them yet?' She said, 'They refused to eat until you come. The food was served for them but they refused." 'Abdur Rahman added, "I went away and hid myself (being afraid of Abu Bakr) and in the meantime he (Abu Bakr) called me, 'O Ghunthar (a harsh word)!' and also called me bad names and abused me and then said (to his family), 'Eat. No welcome for you.' Then (the supper was served). Abu Bakr took an oath that he would not eat that food. The narrator added: By Allah, whenever any one of us (I and the guests of Suffa companions) took anything from the food, it increased from underneath. We all ate to our fill and the food was more than it was before its serving.

Abu Bakr looked at it (the food) and found it as it was before serving or even more than that. He addressed his wife (saying) 'O the sister of Bani Firas! What is this?' She said, 'O the pleasure of my eyes! The food is now three times more than it was before.' Abu Bakr ate from it, and said, 'That (oath) was from Satan' meaning his oath (not to eat). Then he again took a morsel (mouthful) from it and then took the rest of it to the Prophet (s). So that meal was with the Prophet (s). There was a treaty between us and some people, and when the period of that treaty had elapsed the Prophet (s) divided us into twelve (groups the Prophet's companions) each being headed by a man. Allah knows how many men were under the command of each (leader). So all of them; (12 groups of men) ate of that meal."

People of Platform “As-Suffa” loved by Prophet (s)

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6452:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

By Allah except Whom none has the right to- be worshipped, (sometimes) I used to lay (sleep) on the ground on my liver (abdomen) because of hunger, and (sometimes) I used to bind a stone over my belly because of hunger. One day I sat by the way from where they (the Prophet and his companions) used to come out. When Abu Bakr passed by, I asked him about an Ayah from Allah's Book and I asked him only that he might satisfy my hunger, but he passed by and did not do so. Then Umar passed by me and I asked him about a Ayah from Allah's Book, and I asked him only that he might satisfy my hunger, but he passed by without doing so. Finally Abu-l-Qasim (the Prophet) passed by me and he smiled when he saw me, for he knew what was in my heart and on my face. He said, "O Aba Hirr (Abu Huraira)!" I replied, "Labbaik, O Allah's Apostle!" He said to me, "Follow me." He left and I followed him. Then he entered the house and I asked permission to enter and was admitted. He found milk in a bowl and said, "From where is this milk?" They said, "It has been presented to you by such-and-such man (or by such and such woman)." He said, "O Aba Hirr!" I said, "Labbaik, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "Go and call the people of Suffa to me." These people of Suffa were the guests of Islam who had no families, nor money, nor anybody to depend upon, and whenever an object of charity was brought to the Prophet (s), he would send it to them and would not take anything from it, and whenever any present was given to him, he used to send some for them and take some of it for himself. The order off the Prophet (s) upset me, and I said to myself, "How will this little milk be enough for the people of As-Suffa?" thought I was more entitled to drink from that milk in order to strengthen myself, but behold! The Prophet (s) came to order me to give that milk to them. I wondered what will remain of that milk for me, but anyway, I could not but obey Allah and His Apostle so I went to the people of As-Suffa and called them, and they came and asked the Prophet's permission to enter. They were admitted and took their seats in the house. The Prophet (s) said, "O Aba-Hirr!" I said, "Labbaik, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "Take it and give it to them." So I took the bowl (of Milk) and started giving it to one man who would drink his fill and return it to me, whereupon I would give it to another man who, in his turn, would drink his fill and return it to me, and I would then offer it to another man who would drink his fill and return it to me. Finally, after the whole group had drunk their fill, I reached the Prophet who took the bowl and put it on his hand, looked at me and smiled and said. "O Aba Hirr!" I replied, "Labbaik, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "There remain you and I." I said, "You have said the truth, O Allah's Apostle!" He said, "Sit down and drink." I sat down and drank. He said, "Drink," and I drank. He kept on telling me repeatedly to drink, till I said, "No. by Allah Who sent you with the Truth, I have no space for it (in my stomach)." He said, "Hand it over to me." When I gave him the bowl, he praised Allah and pronounced Allah's Name on it and drank the remaining milk.

Translator’s Note: They were about eighty men or more and it is a miracle from Allah to the Prophet (s) that a small bowl of milk (hardly one kilogram) could be sufficient for over eighty men to drink to their fill.

 (2) People of Platform “Ahly Suffa”
mentioned

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 79, Number 6246:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

I entered (the house) along with Allah's Apostle (s). There he found milk in a basin. He said, "O Abu Hirr! Go and call the people of Suffa to me." I went to them and invited them. They came and asked permission to enter, and when it was given, they entered.

(17) CHAPTER. How the Prophet (s) and his Companions used to live, and how they gave up their interest in the world.

 Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6452

 Narrated Abu Hurairah:

By Allah except Whom none has the right to be worshipped, (sometimes) I used to lay (sleep) on the ground on my liver (abdomen) because of hunger, and (sometimes) I used to bind a stone over my belly because of hunger. One day I sat by the way from where they (the Prophet (s) and his Companions) used to come out. When Abu Bakr passed by, I asked him about a Verse from Allah's Book and I asked him only that he might satisfy my hunger, but he passed by and did not do so. Then 'Umar passed by me and I asked him about a Verse from Allah's Book, and I asked him only that he might satisfy my hunger, but he passed by without doing so. Finally

Abul-Qasim (the Prophet) passed by me and he smiled when he saw me, for he knew what was in my heart and on my face. He said, "0’ Aba Hirr (Abu Hurairah)!" I replied, "Labbaik, 0’ Allah's Messenger!" He said to me, "Follow me." He proceeded and I followed him. Then he entered the house and I asked permission to enter and was admitted. He found milk in a bowl and said, "From where is this milk?" They said, "It has been presented to you by such and such man (or by such and such woman)." He said, "0’ Abu Hirr!" I said, "Labbaik, 0’ Allah's Messenger!"  He said, "Go and call the people of Suffa to me". The order of the Prophet (s) upset me, and I said to my own self, "How will this little milk be enough for the people of Suffa?" (Note 1) I thought I was more entitled to drink from that milk in order to strengthen myself, but behold! The Prophet (s) came to order me to give that milk to them. I wondered what will remain of that milk for me, but anyway, I could not but obey Allah and His Messenger, so I went to the people of As-Suffa and called them, and they came and asked the Prophet's permission to enter. They were admitted and took their seats in the house. The Prophet (s) said, "0’ Aba-Hirr!" I said, "Labbaik, 0’ Allah's Messenger!" He said, "Take it and give it to them." He said, "Drink," and I drank. He kept on telling me repeatedly to drink, till I said, "No, by Allah Who sent you with the Truth, I have no space for it (in my stomach)." He said, "Hand it over to me." When I gave him the bowl, he praised Allah and pronounced Allah's Name on it and  drank the remaining milk.

Translator’s Note 1: They were about eighty men or more and it is a miracle from Allah to the Prophet (s) that a small bowl of milk (hardly one kilogram) could be sufficient for over eighty men to drink to their fill.

(3) People of Platform “As-Suffa” looked after
by Companions

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 61, Number 3581:

Narrated Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Bakr:

The companions of Suffa were poor people. The Prophet (s) once said, "Whoever has food enough for two persons, should take a third one (from among them), and whoever has food enough for four persons, should take a fifth or a sixth (or said something similar)." Abu Bakr brought three persons while the Prophet (s) took ten. And Abu Bakr with his three family member (who were I, my father and my mother) (the sub-narrator is in doubt whether 'Abdur-Rahman said, "My wife and my servant who was common for both my house and Abu Bakr's house.") Abu Bakr took his supper with the Prophet and stayed there till he offered the 'Isha' prayers. He returned and stayed till Allah's Apostle took his supper. After a part of the night had passed, he returned to his house. His wife said to him, "What has detained you from your guests?" He said, "Have you served supper to them?" She said, "They refused to take supper) until you come. They (i.e. some members of the household) presented the meal to them but they refused (to eat)" I went to hide myself and he said, "O Ghunthar (ignorant boy)!" He invoked Allah to cause my ears to be cut and he rebuked me. He then said (to them): Please eat!" and added, I will never eat the meal." By Allah, whenever we took a handful of the meal, the meal grew from underneath more than that handful till everybody ate to his satisfaction; yet the remaining food was more than the original meal. Abu Bakr saw that the food was as much or more than the original amount. He called his wife, "O sister of Bani Firas!" She said, "O pleasure of my eyes. The food has been tripled in quantity." Abu Bakr then started eating thereof and said, "It (i.e. my oath not to eat) was because of Sa all." He took a handful from it, and carried the rest to the Prophet (s). SO that food was with the Prophet. There was a treaty between us and some people, and when the period of that treaty had elapsed, he divided US into twelve groups, each being headed by a man. Allah knows how many men were under the command of each leader. Anyhow, the Prophet (s) surely sent a leader with each group. Then all of them ate of that meal. [See Volume. 8, Hadith No .6141]

The people will go on increasing, but the Ansar will go on decreasing till they become just like salt in a meal. So whoever amongst you will be the ruler and have the power to harm or benefit others, should accept the good of the good-doers amongst them and excuse the wrong-doers amongst them."

The Prophet (s) said, "The sign of Belief is to love the Ansar, and the sign of hypocrisy is to hate the Ansar."

(4) Ansar rewarded after conquest of Makkah
Prophet (s) r
eturned with them to
Madina

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 64, Number 4333: [4337]

Narrated Anas:

When it was the day of (the battle of) Hunain, the Prophet (s) confronted the tribe of Hawazin while there were ten-thousand (men) besides the Tulaqa' (i.e. those who had embraced Islam on the day of the Conquest of Mecca) with the Prophet (s). When they (i.e. Muslims) fled, the Prophet (s) said, "O the group of Ansari" They replied, "Labbaik, O Allah's Apostle and Sadaik! We are under your command." Then the Prophet (s) got down (from his mule) and said, "I am Allah's Slave and His Apostle." Then the pagans were defeated. The Prophet (s) distributed the war booty amongst the Tulaqa and Muhajirin (i.e. Emigrants) and did not give anything to the Ansar. So the Ansar spoke (i.e. were dissatisfied) and he called them and made them enter a leather tent and said, won’t you be pleased that the people take the sheep and camels, and you take Allah's Apostle along with you?" The Prophet (s) added, "If the people took their way through a valley and the Ansar took their way through a mountain pass, then I would choose a mountain pass of the Ansar"

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 64, Number 4334:

Narrated Anas:

The Prophet (s) gathered some people of Ansar and said, "The People of Quraish are still close to their Pre-Islamic period of ignorance and have suffered a lot, and I want to help them and attract their hearts (by giving them the war booty). Won't you be pleased that the people take the worldly things) and you take Allah's Apostle with you to your homes?" They said, "Yes, (i.e., we are pleased with this distribution)." The Prophet (s) said, "'If the people took their way through a valley and the Ansar took their way through a mountain pass, then I would take the Ansar's

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 57, Number 3147: [4330-4331]

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

When Allah favored His Apostle (s) with the properties of Hawazin tribe as Fai (booty), he started giving to some Quarries men even up to one-hundred camels each, whereupon some Ansari men said about Allah's Apostle, "May Allah forgive His Apostle! He is giving to (men of) Quraish and leaves us, in spite of the fact that our swords are still dropping blood (of the infidels)" When Allah's Apostle (s) was informed of what they had said; he called the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent and did not call anybody else along, with them. When they gathered, Allah's Apostle came to them and said, "What is the statement which, I have been informed, and that which you have said?" The learned ones among them replied," O Allah's Apostle! The wise ones amongst us did not say anything, but the youngsters amongst us said, 'May Allah forgive His Apostle; he gives the Quraish and leaves the Ansar, in spite of the fact that our swords are still dribbling (wet) with the blood of the infidels.' "Allah's Apostle (s) replied, I give to such people as are still close to the period of Infidelity (i.e. they have recently embraced Islam and Faith is still weak in their hearts). Won't you be pleased to see people go with fortune, while you return with Allah's Apostle to your houses? By Allah, what you will return with is better than what they are returning with." The Ansar replied, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle, we are satisfied' Then the Prophet (s) said to them." You will find after me, others being preferred to you. Then be patient till you meet Allah and meet His Apostle at Al-Kauthar (i.e. a fount in Paradise)." (Anas added) But we did not remain patient.

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 64, Number 4332:

Narrated Anas:

When it was the day of the Conquest (of Mecca) Allah's Apostle (s) distributed the war booty amongst the people of Quraish which caused the Ansar to become angry. So the Prophet (s) said, "Won't you be pleased that the people take the worldly things and you take Allah's Apostle with you.” They said, "Yes." The Prophet (s) said, "If the people took their way through a valley or mountain pass, I would take my way through the Ansar's valley or mountain pass."

(5) Prophet (s) prayed for Ansar during
fatal illness

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 63, Number 3799:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

Abu Bakr and Al-'Abbas passed by one of the gatherings of the Ansar who were weeping, they (i.e. Abu Bakr or Al-'Abbas) asked, "Why are you weeping?" They replied, "We are weeping because we remember the gathering of the Prophet (s) with us." So Abu Bakr went to the Prophet(s) and told him of that. The Prophet (s) came out, tying his head with a piece of the hem of a sheet. He ascended the pulpit which he never ascended after that day. He glorified and praised Allah and then said, "I request you to take care of the Ansar as they are my near companions to whom I confided my private secrets. They have fulfilled their obligations and rights which were enjoined on them but there remains what is for them. So, accept the good of the good-doers amongst them and excuse the wrongdoers amongst them."

Translator’s note: The Prophet (s) was then seriously ill and his Companions were afraid that they would never see him in their gatherings.

 ALI SPECIAL

(1) Ali’s opinion best people Abu Bakar Umar & Usman after Prophet (s)

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 62, Number 3671:

Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Hanafiya:

I asked my father ('Ali bin Abi Talib), "Who are the best people after Allah's Apostle (s)?" He said, "Abu Bakr." I asked, "Who then?" He said, "Then 'Umar. " I was afraid he would say "Uthman, so I said, "Then you?" He said, "I am only an ordinary person.

Note: Ali bin Abi Talib had a son other than Hassan & Hussain.

 (2) Ali having a son other than Hassan & Hussain

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 62, Number 3671:

Narrated Muhammad bin Al-Hanafiya:

I asked my father ('Ali bin Abi Talib), "Who are the best people after Allah's Apostle(s)?" He said, "Abu Bakr." I asked, "Who then?" He said, "Then 'Umar. " I was afraid he would say "Uthman, so I said, "Then you?" He said, "I am only an ordinary person.

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 57, Number 3111-3112:

Narrated Ibn Al-Hanafiya:

If Ali had spoken anything bad about 'Uthman then he would have mentioned the day when some persons came to him and complained about the Zakat officials of 'Uthman. 'Ali then said to me, "Go to 'Uthman and say to him, 'this document contains the regulations of spending the Sadaqa of Allah's Apostle so order your Zakat officials to act accordingly." I took the document to 'Uthman. 'Uthman said, "Take it away, for we are not in need of it." I returned to 'Ali with it and informed him of that. He said, "Put it whence you took it."

Narrated Muhammad bin Suqa: I heard Mundhir At-Tuzi reporting Ibn Hanafiya who said, "My father sent me saying, 'Take this letter to 'Uthman for it contains the orders of the Prophet (s) concerning the Sadqa.' "

(3) Ali NOT inherited from Abu Talib
being NOT a believer

(26) CHAPTER. Neither a Muslim can be the heir of a disbeliever, nor can a disbeliever be the heir of a Muslim. And if somebody becomes a Muslim before the property of his dead (disbeliever) relative is divided among the heirs, he will have no share.

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 85, Number 6764:

Narrated Usama bin Zaid:

The Prophet (s) said, "A Muslim cannot be the heir of a disbeliever, nor can a disbeliever be the heir of a Muslim."

Bukhari Volume 2, Book 25, Number 1588:

Narrated 'Usama bin Zaid:

I asked, "O Allah's Apostle! Where will you stay in Mecca? Will you stay in your house in Mecca?" He replied, "Has 'Aqil left any property or house?" Aqil along with Talib had inherited the property of Abu Talib. Jafar and Ali did not inherit anything as they were Muslims and the other two were non-believers. 'Umar bin Al-Khattab used to say, "A believer cannot inherit (anything from an) infidel." Ibn Shihab, (a sub-narrator) said, "They (Umar and others) derived the above verdict from Allah's Statement:

"Verily those who believed and Emigrated and strove with their life and property in Allah's Cause, and those who helped (the emigrants) and gave them their places to live in, these are (all) allies to one another." (8.72)

Those who embraced the Faith and emigrated from their homes and expended their possessions and their lives in the Way of Allah, and those who gave refuge to the emigrants and helped them, are indeed the guardians of one another. However, you have no relation of guardianship with those who have embraced the Faith, but have not emigrated (to Dar-ul-Islam) until they emigrates 50 (to it); yet it is obligatory on you to help them in the matters of Faith, if they ask for your help, except against a people with whom you have a treaty. 51 As for disbelievers, they help one another; unless you also help one another, there will be mischief and great disorder on the earth. 52 (8:72-73)

(4) Ali wanting to marry Abu Jahal’s daughter
Prophet (s) strongly disapproved

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 57, Number 3110:

Narrated 'Ali bin Al-Husain:

That when they reached Medina after returning from Yazid bin Mu'awaiya after the martyrdom of Husain bin 'Ali (may Allah bestow His Mercy upon him), Al-Miswar bin Makhrama met him and said to him, "Do you have any need you may order me to satisfy?" 'Ali said, "No." Al-Miswar said, Will you give me the sword of Allah's Apostle (s) for I am afraid that people may take it from you by force? By Allah, if you give it to me, they will never be able to take it till I die." When Ali bin Abu Talib demanded the hand of the daughter of Abi Jahal to be his wife besides Fatima, I heard Allah's Apostle (s) on his pulpit delivering a sermon in this connection before the people, and I had then attained my age of puberty. Allah's Apostle (s) said, "Fatima is from me, and I am afraid she will be subjected to trials in her religion (because of jealousy)." The Prophet (s) then mentioned one of his sons-in-law who was from the tribe of 'Abu Shams and he praised him as a good son-in-law, saying, "Whatever he said was the truth, and he promised me and fulfilled his promise. I do not make a legal thing illegal, nor do I make an illegal thing legal, but by Allah, the daughter of Allah's Apostle and the daughter of the enemy of Allah, (i.e. Abu Jahal) can never get together (as the wives of one man)

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 62, Number 3729:

(16) CHAPTER. Narrations about the son-in-law of the Prophet and one of them is Abu Al-As bin Ar-Rabi'

Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama:

'Ali demanded the hand of the daughter of Abu Jahal. Fatima heard of this and went to Allah's Apostle saying, "Your people think that you do not become angry for the sake of your daughters as 'Ali is now going to marry the daughter of Abu Jahal. "On that Allah's Apostle (s) got up and after his recitation of Tashah-hud. I heard him saying, "Then after! I married one of my daughters to Abu Al-'As bin Al-Rabi' (the husband of Zainab, the daughter of the Prophet) before Islam and he proved truthful in whatever he said to me. No doubt, Fatima is a part of me and I hate to see her being troubled. By Allah, the daughter of Allah's Apostle and the daughter of Allah's Enemy cannot be the wives of one man." So 'Ali gave up that engagement.

'Al-Miswar further said: I heard the Prophet (s) talking and he mentioned a son-in-law of his belonging to the tribe of Bani 'Abd-Shams. He highly praised him concerning that relationship and said (whenever) he spoke to me, he spoke the truth, and whenever he promised me, he fulfilled his promise."

(5) “Ali you are from me”
Background adoption of Hamza’s daughter

(44) CHAPTER. The 'Umra Al-Qada' (i.e. an 'Umra performed in lieu of an abandoned or missed or being prevented 'Umra.)

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 64, Number 4251:

Narrated Al-Bara:

When the Prophet (s) went out for the 'Umra in the month of Dhal-Qa'da, the people of Mecca did not allow him to enter Mecca till he agreed to conclude a peace treaty with them by virtue of which he would stay in Mecca for three days only (in the following year). When the agreement was being written, the Muslims wrote: "This is the peace treaty, which Muhammad, Apostle of Allah has concluded."

The infidels said (to the Prophet), "We do not agree with you on this, for if we knew that you are Apostle of Allah we would not have prevented you for anything (i.e. entering Mecca, etc.), but you are Muhammad, the son of 'Abdullah." Then he said to 'Ali, "Erase (the name of) 'Apostle of Allah'." 'Ali said, "No, by Allah, I will never erase you (i.e. your name)." Then Allah's Apostle took the writing sheet...and he did not know a better writing and he wrote or got it the following written! "This is the peace treaty which Muhammad, the son of 'Abdullah, has concluded: "Muhammad should not bring arms into Mecca except sheathed swords, and should not take with him any person of the people of Mecca even if such a person wanted to follow him, and if any of his companions wants to stay in Mecca, he should not forbid him."

(In the next year) when the Prophet (s) entered Mecca and the allowed period of stay elapsed, the infidels came to Ali and said "Tell your companion (Muhammad) to go out, as the allowed period of his stay has finished." So the Prophet (s) departed (from Mecca) and the daughter of Hamza followed him shouting "O Uncle, O Uncle!" Ali took her by the hand and said to Fatima, "Take the daughter of your uncle." So she made her ride (on her horse). (When they reached Medina) 'Ali, Zaid and Ja'far quarreled about her. 'Ali said, "I took her for she is the daughter of my uncle." Ja'far said, "She is the daughter of my uncle and her aunt is my wife." Zaid said, "She is the daughter of my brother." On that, the Prophet (s) gave her to her aunt and said, "The aunt is of the same status as the mother." He then said to 'Ali, "You are from me, and I am from you," and said to Ja'far, "You resemble me in appearance and character," and said to Zai "You are our brother and our freed slave." 'Ali said to the Prophet (s) 'Won't you marry the daughter of Hamza?" The Prophet (s) said, "She is the daughter of my foster brother."

Note: There is a dire need to have proper knowledge and true background of certain cliché to remove false coating of “Make believe” ideas hurting Muslim unity today. Many of us Muslims may not know that such ideas are actually accumulated over centuries of the treacheries done by some turncoat conspirators and traitors like Abdullah bin Saba.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdullah_ibn_Saba%27

Following Ahadis must also be studied to have more clarity on the subject; Ali severely punishing such apostate who were giving him extraordinary status of god incarnate, aiming to create division & schism amongst early Muslims, furthermore Ali always stood for Muslim Unity giving it more value than his own life.

 (6) Ali’s hated people giving him extraordinary
status ordered such apostates to be burnt

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 88, Number 6922:

Narrated 'Ikrima:

Some Zanadiqa (atheists) were brought to 'Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn 'Abbas who said, "If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah's Apostle (s) forbade it, saying, 'Do not punish anybody with Allah's punishment (fire).' I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah's Apostle (s), 'Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.'"

Note 1: Atheist, heretics and naturalists in Arabic are called Zanadiqa, people having no belief in God having no morals such opportunists adapts to whatever faith looks more worldly useful. Some narrators believe people who were brought in front of Ali belonged to “Saba’aii” sect whose leader was Abdullah Bin Saba.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdullah_ibn_Saba%27

This traitorous man was actually a Jew turned to Islam basically to bring harm to Muslims. Saba started spreading misinformation that Ali is a god incarnate as in Hindu mythology. When Ali came to know about these people he got them arrested and ordered them to be burned, these are the people referred as Zanadiqa in above Hadis. (From Urdu translation)

Note 2: Punishment by burning prerogative of Allah.

(7) Ali for unity in Muslim Ummah
even if had to pay own life

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 62, Number 3707:

Narrated Ubaida:

Ali said (to the people of 'Iraq), "Judge as you used to judge, for I hate differences (and I do my best) till the people unite as one group, or I die as my companions have died."

(1) Ali distributed gift of silk amongst
family women
seeing sign of anger

The Prophet (s) gave me a silken dress as a gift and I wore it. When I saw the signs of anger on his face, I cut it into pieces and distributed it among women."

Note 1: from Urdu translation: Narration from Abu Sualeh has following words, “…distributed amongst Fatimas', meaning Fatima Az-Zahara, his wife, Fatima binte Asad, his mother, Fatima binte Hamza bin Abdul Muttalib, and Fatima binte Shayba, wife of Aqeel bin Abu Talib, his brother.”

Note 2: This Hadis amply elaborates the point that wearing silk by men was disliked by Prophet (s) whereas women were allowed.

So, the companions of the Prophet (s) got up, wishing eagerly to see to whom the flag will be given, and every one of them wished to be given the flag. But the Prophet (s) asked for 'Ali. Someone informed him that he was suffering from eye-trouble. So, he ordered them to bring 'Ali in front of him. Then the Prophet (s) spat in his eyes and his eyes were cured immediately as if he had never any eye-trouble. 'Ali said, "We will fight with them (i.e. infidels) till they become like us (i.e. Muslims)." The Prophet (s) said, "Be patient, till you face them and invite them to Islam and inform them of what Allah has enjoined upon them. By Allah! If a single person embraces Islam at your hands (i.e. through you), that will be better for you than the red camels."

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 2975:

Narrated Salama bin Al-Akwa:

Ali remained behind the Prophet (s) during the battle of Khaibar as he way suffering from some eye trouble but then he said, "How should I stay behind Allah's Apostle?" So, he set out till he joined the Prophet (s). On the eve of the day of the conquest of Khaibar, Allah's Apostle (s) said, "(No doubt) I will give the flag or, tomorrow, a man whom Allah and His Apostle (s) love or who loves Allah and His apostle will take the flag. Allah will bestow victory upon him." Suddenly 'Ali joined us though we were not expecting him. The people said, "Here is 'Ali. "So, Allah's Apostle (s) gave the flag to him and Allah bestowed victory upon him.

Bukhari Volume 3, Book 34, Number 2089:

Narrated 'Ali:

I got an old she-camel as my share from the booty, and the Prophet (s) had given me another from Al-Khumus. And when I intended to marry Fatima [daughter of the Prophet(s)], I arranged that a goldsmith from the tribe of Bani Qainuqa' would accompany me in order to bring Idhkhir and then sell it to the goldsmiths and use its price for my marriage banquet.

Bukhari Volume 3, Book 42, Number 2375:

Narrated Husain bin Ali:

Ali bin Abi Talib said: "I got a she-camel as my share of the war booty on the day (of the battle) of Badr, and Allah's Apostle (s) gave me another she-camel. I let both of them kneel at the door of one of the Ansar, intending to carry Idhkhir on them to sell it and use its price for my wedding banquet on marrying Fatima. A goldsmith from Bam Quinqa' was with me. Hamza bin 'Abdul-Muttalib was in that house drinking wine and a lady singer was reciting: "O Hamza! (Kill) the (two) fat old she camels (and serve them to your guests)."

So Hamza took his sword and went towards the two she-camels and cut off their humps and opened their flanks and took a part of their livers." (I said to Ibn Shihab, "Did he take part of the humps?" He replied, "He cut off their humps and carried them away.") 'Ali further said, "When I saw that dreadful sight, I went to the Prophet (s) and told him the news. The Prophet (s) came out in the company of Zaid bin Haritha who was with him then, and I too went with them. He went to Hamza and spoke harshly to him. Hamza looked up and said, 'Aren't you only the slaves of my forefathers?' The Prophet (s) retreated and went out. This incident happened before the prohibition of drinking." (3091, 4003)

(4) Ali named Abu Turab by Prophet (s)
out of love
sleeping in mosque
annoyed with Fatima

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8, Number 441: [6280 Volume 8]

Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd:

Allah's Apostle (s) went to Fatima's house but did not find 'Ali there. So he asked, "Where is your cousin?" She replied, "There was something between us and he got angry with me and went out. He did not sleep (mid-day nap) in the house." Allah's Apostle (s) asked a person to look for him. That person came and said, "O Allah's Apostle! He (Ali) is sleeping in the mosque." Allah's Apostle (s) went there and 'Ali was lying. His upper body cover had fallen down to one side of his body and he was covered with dust. Allah's Apostle (s) started cleaning the dust from him saying: "Get up! O Aba Turab. Get up! O Aba Turab (literally means: O father of dust).

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 62, Number 3703:

Narrated Abu Hazim:

A man came to Sahl bin Sad and said, "This is so-and-so," meaning the Governor of Medina, "He is calling 'Ali bad names near the pulpit." Sahl asked, "What is he saying?" He (i.e. the man) replied, "He calls him (i.e. 'Ali) Abu Turab." Sahl laughed and said, "By Allah, none but the Prophet (s) called him by this name and no name was dearer to 'Ali than this." So I asked Sahl to tell me more, saying, "O Abu 'Abbas! How (was this name given to 'Ali)?" Sahl said; 'Ali went to Fatima and then came out and slept in the Mosque. The Prophet (s) asked Fatima, "Where is your cousin?" She said, "In the Mosque." The Prophet (s) went to him and found that his (i.e. Ali's) covering sheet had slipped of his back and dust had soiled his back. The Prophet (s) started wiping the dust off his back and said twice, "Get up! O Abu Turab (i.e. O. man with the dust)."

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 78, Number 6204:

The most beloved names to 'Ali was Abu Turab, and he used to be pleased when we called him by it, for none named him Abu Turab (for the first time), but the Prophet (s). Once 'Ali got angry with (his wife) Fatima, and went out (of his house) and slept near a wall in the mosque. The Prophet (s) came searching for him, and someone said, "He is there, lying near the wall." The Prophet (s) came to him while his ('Ali's) back was covered with dust. The Prophet (s) started removing the dust from his back, saying, "Get up, O Abu Turab!"

(5) Ali not appointed successor

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 51, Number 2741:

Narrated Al-Aswad:

In the presence of 'Aisha some people mentioned that the Prophet (s) had appointed 'Ali by will as his successor. 'Aisha said, "When did he (s) appoint him by will? Verily when he died he was resting against my chest (or said: in my lap) and he asked for a wash-basin and then collapsed while in that state, and I could not even perceive that he (s) had died, so when did he appoint him by will?"

(6) Ali refused to ask caliphate question
during Prophet (s) fatal illness

Bukhari Volume 5, Book 64, Number 4447:

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abbas:

Ali bin Abu Talib came out of the house of Allah's Apostle (s) during his fatal illness. The people asked, "O Abu Hasan (i.e. Ali)! How is the health of Allah's Apostle (s) this morning?" 'Ali replied, "He has recovered with the Grace of Allah." 'Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib held him by the hand and said to him, "In three days you, by Allah, will be ruled (by somebody else), and by Allah, I feel that Allah's Apostle (s) will die from this ailment of his, for I know how the faces of the offspring of 'Abdul Muttalib look at the time of their death. So let us go to Allah's Apostle (s) and ask him who will take over as Ameer (the Caliphate). If it is given to us we will know as to it, and if it is given to somebody else, we will inform him so that he may tell the new Ameer (ruler) to take care of us." 'Ali said, "By Allah, if we asked Allah's Apostle (s) for it (i.e. the Caliphate) and he denied it us, the people will never give it to us after that. And by Allah, I will not ask Allah's Apostle for it."

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 79, Number 6266:

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas:

'Ali bin Abu Talib came out of the house of the Prophet (s) during his fatal ailment. The people asked ('Ali), "O Abu Hasan! How is the health of Allah's Apostle (s) this morning?" 'Ali said, "This morning he is better, with the grace of Allah." Al-'Abbas held Ali by the hand and said, "Don't you see him (about to die)? By Allah, within three days you will be the slave of the stick (i.e., under the command of another ruler). By Allah, I think that Allah's Apostle (s) will die from his present ailment, for I know the signs of death on the faces of the offspring of 'Abdul Muttalib. So let us go to Allah's Apostle (s) to ask him who will take over the Caliphate. If the authority is given to us, we will know it, and if it is given to somebody else we will request him to recommend us to him. “Ali said, "By Allah! If we ask Allah's Apostle (s) for the ruler ship and he refuses, then the people will never give it to us. Besides, I will never ask Allah's Apostle (s) for it."

(7) Ali sent to read out parts of Surah Tauba
warning Quraish
about punishment
from Allah if do not accept Islam

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 8, Number 369:

Narrated Abu Hurairah;

On the Day of Nahr (10th of Dhul-Hajj, in the year prior to the last Hajj of the Prophet (s) when Abu Bakr was the leader of the pilgrims in that Hajj), Abu Bakr sent me along with other announcers  to Mind to make a public announcement (proclaiming): "No Mushrik (polytheist, pagan, idolater  and disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammad is allowed to perform  Hajj after this year; and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf around the Ka'bah."

Then Allah's Messenger sent 'All to read out the Surah Bara’a (At-Tauba) to the people; so he made the announcement along with us on the day of Na hr in Mina: "No Mushrik - (polytheist,   pagan, idolater and disbeliever in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammad (s) is allowed to perform Hajj after this year and no naked person is allowed to perform the Tawaf around the Ka'bah."

“This is a declaration 1 of immunity (from obligations) by Allah and His Messenger to those mushriks with whom you had made treaties: 2 "You are free to move about in the land for four months more: 3 but you should know that you cannot frustrate the Will of Allah, and that Allah will degrade the rejecters of the Truth." This is a public proclamation from Allah and His Messenger for all the people on the Day of Great Haj: 4 Allah is free from the treaty obligations made with the Mushrik and so is His Messenger. If, therefore, you repent now, it is better for you but if you turn away, you should know it well that you cannot frustrate (the Will of) Allah. And, O Prophet, give the good news of a painful chastisement to the rejecters excepting those Mushrik with whom you made treaties. And who afterwards did not violate these in the least nor did they give help to anyone against you; so you also should observe the treaties with such people in accordance with their terms, for Allah loves the pious people. 5 Then, when the months made unlawful 6 for fighting expire, kill the Mushrik wherever you find them, and seize them, and besiege them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent, and establish Salat and pay the Zakat dues, then let them go their way: 7 for Allah is Forgiving and Compassionate. And if any of the Mushrik requests you for protection so that he may come to you (to hear the Word of Allah), give him protection till he hears the Word of Allah; then convey him to the place of his safety: this should be done because these people do not know the Truth. 8(9:1-6)

was with him

The angels and all the people; and none of his compulsory or optional good deeds of worship will be accepted and the asylum granted by any Muslim is to be secured by all the Muslims even if it is granted by one of the lowest social status among them. And whoever betrays a Muslim in this respect will incur the Curse of Allah, the angels and all the people, and his compulsory and optional good deeds of worship will not be accepted. And any freed slave will take as masters (befriends) people other than his own real masters who freed him without taking the permission of the latter, will incur the Curse of Allah, the angels and all the people, and his compulsory and optional good deeds of worship will not be accepted."

I asked 'Ali "Do you have anything Divine literature besides what is in the Qur'an?" Or, as Uyaina once said, "Apart from what the people have?" 'Ali said, "By Him Who made the grain split (germinate) and created the soul, we have nothing except what is in the Quran and the ability (gift) of understanding Allah's Book which He may endow a man, with and what is written in this sheet of paper." I asked, "What is on this paper?" He replied, "The legal regulations of Diya (Blood-money) and the (ransom for) releasing of the captives, and the judgment that no Muslim should be killed in Qisas (equality in punishment) for killing a Kafir (disbeliever)."

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 85, Number 6755:

We have no Book to recite except the Book of Allah (Qur'an) and this paper. Then 'Ali took out the paper, and behold! There was written in it, legal verdicts about the retaliation for wounds, the ages of the camels (to be paid as Zakat or as blood money). In it was also written: 'Medina is a sanctuary from Air (mountain) to Thaur (mountain). So whoever innovates in it a heresy (something new in religion) or commits a crime in it or gives shelter to such an innovator, will incur the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people, and none of his compulsory or optional good deeds will be accepted on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever (a freed slave) takes as his master (i.e. be-friends) some people other than his real masters without the permission of his real masters, will incur the curse of Allah, the angels and all the people, and none of his compulsory, or optional good deeds will be accepted on the Day of Resurrection. And the asylum granted by any Muslim is to be secured by all the Muslims, even if it is granted by one of the lowest social status among them; and whoever betrays a Muslim, in this respect will incur the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and none of his Compulsory or optional good deeds will be accepted on the Day of Resurrection."

And the asylum (of protection) granted by any Muslim is to be secured (respected) by all the other Muslims; and whoever betrays a Muslim in this respect incurs the curse of Allah, the angels, and all the people, and none of his compulsory or optional good deeds of worship will be accepted, and whoever (freed slave) befriends (take as masters) other than his manumitters without their permission incurs the curse of Allah, the angels, and all

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 3047:

Narrated Abu Juhaifa:

I asked Ali, "Do you have the knowledge of any Divine Inspiration besides what is in Allah's Book?" 'Ali replied, "No, by Him Who splits the grain of corn and creates the soul. I don't think we have such knowledge, but we have the ability of understanding which Allah may endow a person with, so that he may understand the Qur'an, and we have what is written in this paper as well." I asked, "What is written in this paper?" He replied, "(The regulations of) blood-money, the freeing of captives, and the judgment that no Muslim should be killed for killing an infidel."

If Ali had spoken anything bad about 'Uthman then he would have mentioned the day when some persons came to him and complained about the Zakat officials of 'Uthman. 'Ali then said to me, "Go to 'Uthman and say to him, 'this document contains the regulations of spending the Sadqa of Allah's Apostle (s) so order your Zakat officials to act accordingly." I took the document to 'Uthman. 'Uthman said, "Take it away, for we are not in need of it." I returned to 'Ali with it and informed him of that. He said, "Put it whence you took it."

Narrated Muhammad bin Suqa: I heard Mundhir At-Tuzi reporting Ibn Hanafiya who said, "My father sent me saying, 'Take this letter to 'Uthman for it contains the orders of the Prophet concerning the Sadqa.' "

Narrated Sad bin 'Ubaida:

Abu Abdur-Rahman who was one of the supporters of Uthman said to Abu Talha who was one of the supporters of Ali, "I perfectly know what encouraged your leader (i.e. 'Ali) to shed blood. I heard him saying: Once the Prophet (s) sent me and Az-Zubair saying, 'Proceed to such-and-such Ar-Roudah (place) where you will find a lady whom Hatib has given a letter. So when we arrived at Ar-Roudah, we requested the lady to hand over the letter to us. She said, 'Hatib has not given me any letter.' We said to her. 'Take out the letter or else we will strip off your clothes.' So she took it out of her braid. So the Prophet (s) sent for Hatib, (who came) and said, 'Don't hurry in judging me, for, by Allah, I have not become a disbeliever, and my love to Islam is increasing. (The reason for writing this letter was) that there is none of your companions but has relatives in Mecca who look after their families and property, while I have nobody there, so I wanted to do them some favor (so that they might look after my family and property).' The Prophet (s) believed him. 'Umar said, 'Allow me to chop off his (i.e. Hatib's) neck as he has done hypocrisy.' The Prophet (s) said, (to 'Umar), 'Who knows, perhaps Allah has looked at the warriors of Badar and said (to them); 'Do whatever you like, for I have forgiven you.' "Abdur-Rahman added, "So this is what encouraged him (i.e. Ali)."

The pagans said, "Don't write: 'Muhammad, Allah's Apostle', for if you were an apostle we would not fight with you." Allah's Apostle asked Ali to rub it out, but Ali said, "I will not be the person to rub it out." Allah's Apostle (s) rubbed it out and made peace with them on the condition that the Prophet (s) and his companions would enter Mecca and stay there for three days, and that they would enter with their weapons in cases. While the Prophet (s) was leaving, 'Ali heard him striking his thigh (with his hand) and saying, "But man is quarrelsome more than anything else." (18.54)

Allah's Apostle (s) set out for Tabuk appointing 'Ali as his deputy (in Medina). Ali said, "Do you want to leave me with the children and women?" The Prophet (s) said, "Will you not be pleased that you will be to me like Aaron to Moses? But there will be no prophet after me."
