BUKHARI MADEASY - HEREAFTER

ESCHATOLOGY

Contrast Heaven Vs Hell

Important Note: dark blue are notes while black is copied from translations of Hadis and red is for Quranic Ayah & to highlight comments and certain parts in translation of “Sahih Bukhari” by Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan.

Strict rules were established by “Muhadiseen”, the Compilers of Hadis to ensure the authenticity of Ahadis. Each Hadis was carefully scrutinized before they decided to include it in their works by mainly checking the age, memory, piety and location of every individual in the chain of narrator, “Asnad” and the very text, “Matan” which qualified strict criterions such as not being against teachings of Quran, an already established Hadis, not against logic and accuracy of time and space, few to mention. Imam Bukhari a pioneer in this field collected some 600,000 Ahadis from which he included only 7397 with 4000 repetitions in his collection well known as SAHIH BUKHARI. However the reader must know that the division into chapters, selecting suitable headings for each chapter and brief introductory comments, where required, are the words of the “Muhadiseen” the Compilers of Ahadis and not that of the Prophet (s).

Therefore with passage of time when copies were being prepared by coming scholars from the original manuscript, the first of its kind, prepared by Bukhari some 12 hundred years ago; strict rules laid down by him for his work, were ensured as far as the content and text, “Matan” of Hadis is concerned. However the latter scholars mostly omitted lengthy chain of narrators for the sake of brevity and felt free to make minor changes in giving own words for headings of the chapters and brief commentary, to the best of their intellect and understanding; being the words of the compilers and not Prophet (s).

This is a reason that accuracy of the contents of Hadis is maintained till to date in the copies prepared from the works of Bukhari and other compilations such as Sahih Muslim, Sunan Abu Daoud, Sunan Ibn e Maja, Kitab ul Sunnah of Nisaie and Jami al Tirmizi. This brief insight will greatly help us in understanding the logic in the titles given to the chapters, brief comments and introductory notes given by the compilers with the contents and text of actual Hadis, which at times can raise question in the mind of the reader.

AKHIRA LIFE HEREAFTER

Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6416:

Narrated Mujahid:

'Abdullah bin 'Umar said, "Allah's Apostle (s) took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler."

The sub-narrator added: Ibn 'Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death."

Translator’s Note: This means, 'Do good deeds when you are healthy and alive before you become sick and die.’????

Seclusion isolation separating in light of Hadis explain concept of Zuhad

Note: Reading such Ahadis in today’s world, early 21st century, makes one wonder about the application and utility of such Ahadis, whereas every word of Prophet (s) is carrying a fountainhead of wisdom. Here we need to remind ourselves that like Quran (Youfasilo Bada’a hu Ba’ada) one part explains the other; same way we can better understand such Ahadis applying this principle instead of pondering over a Hadis in isolation, which can be misleading at times.

Prophet (s) is quoted to have said, “Be indifferent to the world and Allah will love you; be indifferent to what people possess and they will love you.”

Arabic word Zuhad is not easy to explain in one word as it is a major paradigm shift, altogether a different way of looking at life, easiest to say a discreet selfless indifference. This is a way of life in which the life hereafter is an absolute reality like a traveler at no point in time is oblivious of his destination yet fully enjoying each and every moment of the picturesque journey, coalescing with everyone around with pleasure. This state of mind becoming a permanent feature, makes one live a life full of peace and contentment with the essence of this discreet selfless indifference, neither getting hurt, every now and then, nor hurting anyone; having no jealousy and feeling of competition, ultimately making oneself a source of benefit for everyone around as well as one’s own self. [Hassan category of hadith related by Ibn Majah]

Reading these Ahadis now having understood the spirit of Zuhad one would better visualize the great utility of all such Ahadis in our lives where seclusion is not to hurt the delicate fiber of social bondage but strengthen it all the more by being a coalescent member of this society.

(34) CHAPTER. Seclusion is better for a believer than to have evil companions.

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6494:

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri:

A bedouin came to the Prophet (s) and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who is the best of mankind?" The Prophet said, "A man who strives for Allah's Cause with his life and property, and also a man who lives (all alone) in a mountain path among the mountain paths to worship his Lord and save the people from his evil."

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6495:

Narrated Abu Said:

I heard the Prophet (s) saying, "There will come a time upon the people when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep which he will take to the tops of mountains and to the places of  rainfall; and he will run away with his religion (in order to save it) from Al-Fitan (affliction, trials) ."

(11) CHAPTER. What a Muslim should do if there is no righteous group of Muslims

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 92, Number 7084:

Narrated Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman:

The people used to ask Allah's Apostle (s) about the good but I used to ask him about the evil lest I should be overtaken by them. So I said, "O Allah's Apostle! We were living in ignorance and in an (extremely) worst atmosphere, then Allah brought to us this good (i.e., Islam); will there be any evil after this good?" He said, "Yes." I said, 'Will there be any good after that evil?" He replied, "Yes, but it will be tainted (not pure.)'' I asked, "What will be its taint?" He replied, "(There will be) some people who will guide others not according to my tradition? You will approve of some of their deeds and disapprove of some others." I asked, "Will there be any evil after that good?" He replied, "Yes, (there will be) some people calling at the gates of the (Hell) Fire, and whoever will respond to their call, will be thrown by them into the (Hell) Fire." I said, "O Allah s Apostle! Will you describe them to us?" He said, "They will be from our own people and will speak our language." I said, "What do you order me to do if such a state should take place in my life?" He said, "Stick to the group of Muslims and their Imam (ruler)." I said, "If there is neither a group of Muslims nor an Imam (ruler)?" He said, "Then turn away from all those sects even if you were to bite (eat) the roots of a tree till death overtakes you while you are in that state."

(12) CHAPTER. To flee (run away) from Al-Fiitn (afflictions and trials), is a part of religion.

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 2, Number 19: [7088Volume 9 No 3600 Volume 4]

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri:

Allah's Messenger (s) said, "A time will come when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep,  which he will take on the top of mountains and the places of rainfall (valleys) so as to flee with  his religion from Al-Fitan (afflictions and trials)".

Bukhari Volume 4, Book 56, Number 2786:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

Somebody asked, "O Allah's Apostle (s)! Who is the best among the people?" Allah's Apostle (s) replied "A believer who strives his utmost in Allah's Cause with his life and property." They asked, "Who is next?" He (s) replied, "A believer who stays in one of the mountain paths worshipping Allah and leaving the people secure from his mischief."

Translator’s Note: This is true in times of afflictions and disorder, otherwise social life is better than seclusion as the Prophet says in a Hadith reported by At- Tirmizi: "He who mixes with people and endures their mischief is better rewarded than he who does not mix with people and does not endure their mischief."

Note: It must be noted that two distinctively different situations are painted in above Ahadis and should not be confused by replacing one by the other or even comparing; a major reason which creates doubts in the mind of the reader and ultimately the trust in Hadis literature. Bukhari quotes a Hadis saying “A believer who stays in one of the mountain paths worshipping Allah and leaving the people secure from his mischief” and the one in translator’s note is that “He who mixes with people and endures their mischief is better rewarded” Difference is so clear in approach by Bukhari and other compilers of Hadis because there must be a solid reason for Bukhari not to include Hadis noted by Tirmizi in latter times. However Quranic ordains is best in setting the criterion, “….help ye one another unto righteousness and pious duty. Help not one another unto sin and transgression”. (5:2)

(13) CHAPTER. If a Muslim stays among the bad people

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 92, Number 7086:

Narrated Hudhaifa:

Allah's Apostle (s) related to us, two prophetic narrations one of which I have seen fulfilled and I am waiting for the fulfillment of the other. The Prophet (s) told us that Al-Amnanah (the trust or  moral responsibility or honesty, the virtue of honesty and all the duties which Allah has ordained) descended in the roots of men's hearts (from Allah) and then they learned it from the Qur'an and then they learned it from the Sunnah (the Prophet's traditions). The Prophet (s) further told us how that honesty will be taken away: He said: "Man will go to sleep during which honesty will be taken away from his heart and only its trace will remain in his heart like the trace of a dark spot; then man will go to sleep, during which honesty will decrease further still, so that its trace will resemble the trace of blister as when an ember is dropped on one's foot which would make it swell, and one would see it swollen but there would be nothing inside. People would be carrying out their trade but hardly will there be a trustworthy person. It will be said, 'in such-and-such tribe there is an honest man,' and later it will be said about some man, 'What a wise, polite and strong man he is’ though he will not have faith equal even to a mustard seed in his heart." No doubt, there came upon me a time when I did not mind dealing (bargaining) with anyone of you, for if he was a Muslim his Islam would compel him to pay me what is due to me, and if he was a Christian, the Muslim official would compel him to pay me what is due to me, but today I do not deal except with such-and-such person.

(Book “Minhaj ul Abideen” by Ghazali is based on the authority of such Ahadis)

Note: Al-Fitan means breaking up of Islamic system of government, today’s Islamic countries are worse than the days of the period of Fitna in Islam.

 (1) 3 types of people Allah will neither speak nor purify on Day of Resurrection

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 96, Number 7212: [7446 Volume 9]

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "There will be three types of people whom Allah will neither speak to them on the Day of Resurrection nor will purify them from sins, and they will have a painful punishment: They are,

(1) A man possessed superfluous water (more than he needs) on a way and he withholds it from the travelers.

(2) A man who gives a pledge of allegiance to an Imam (ruler) and gives it only for worldly benefits, if the Imam gives him what he wants, he abides by his pledge, otherwise he does not fulfill his pledge;

(3) And a man who sells something to another man after the 'Asar prayer and swears by Allah (a false oath) that he has been offered so much for it whereupon the buyer believes him and buys it although in fact, the seller has not been offered such a price." (See Hadith No. 2672, Volume 3)

(2) 3 most hated persons by Allah.

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 87, Number 6882:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

The Prophet said, "The most hated persons to Allah are three:

(1) A person who deviates from the right conduct, i.e., an evil doer, in the Haram (sanctuaries of Mecca and Medina);

(2) A person who seeks that the traditions of the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance, should remain in Islam

(3) And a person who seeks to shed somebody's blood without any right."

(3) 7 blessed category of people under special shade on Day of Resurrection

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6479:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said Allah will give shade to seven (types of people) under His Shade (on the Day of Resurrection). (One of them will be) a person who remembers Allah and his eyes are then flooded with tears.

Bukhari Volume 2, Book 24, Number 1423: [6806 Volume 8]

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (s) said, "Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. They are:

(1) A just ruler;

(2) A young man who has been brought up in the worship of Allah, (i.e. worship Allah (Alone) sincerely from his childhood),

(3) A man whose heart is attached to the mosque (who offers the five compulsory congregational prayers in the mosque);

(4) Two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only;

(5) A man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for an illegal sexual intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah;

(6) A person who practices charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity).

(7) A person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes get flooded with tears."

Bukhari Volume 1, Book 10, Number 660: [1423]

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, "Allah will give shade, to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His. (These seven persons are)

1.      A just ruler,

2.      A youth who has been brought up in the worship of Allah (i.e. worships Allah sincerely from childhood),

3.      A man whose heart is attached to the mosques (i.e. to pray the compulsory prayers in the mosque in congregation),

4.      Two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only,

5.      A man who refuses the call of a charming woman of noble birth for illicit intercourse with her and says: I am afraid of Allah,

6.      A man who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much he has given in charity),

7.     And a person who remembers Allah in seclusion and his eyes are then flooded with tears."

(4) Age 60 – Prepare for hereafter

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6419:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet (s) said, "Allah will not accept the excuse of any person whose instant of death is delayed till he is sixty years of age."

Translator’s Note: Such a person will not have the right to say, "If Allah had given me another lease of life, I would have done good deeds," for he has been given a life, long enough for him to do good deeds.

 (5) Desires of world grows with age instead of diminishing

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6421:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

Allah's Apostle said, "The son of Adam (i.e. man) grows old and so also two (desires) grow old with him, i.e., love for wealth and (a wish for) a long life."

Note: Following Ayahs of Quran elucidate this point further as to how love of world keep on increasing if one has no concept of accountability and yūqinūna certitude of Hereafter.

Quran on the topic

“O Prophet, tell them plainly, "If your fathers and your sons, and your brothers and your wives, and your near and dear ones and the wealth which you have acquired and the trade you fear may decline and the homes which delight you-if all these things-are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and the struggle in His Way, then wait till Allah passes His judgment on you; 22 for Allah does not guide the wicked people.” (9:24)

“Know it well that the life of this world is nothing but a sport and pastime, and a show and boasting among yourselves and a rivalry in wealth and children. Its example is of vegetation after a shower of rain, which delighted the tillers, then the same ripens and you see it turn yellow, then it becomes straw. Contrary to this, in the life to come there is severe torment and forgiveness from Allah and His good pleasure. The life of this world is nothing but illusion. 36 Therefore, strive in rivalry with one another 37 in hastening towards the Paradise the vastness of which is like the vastness of the heavens and earth, 38 prepared for those who have believed in Allah and His Messengers. This is Allah's bounty which He bestows on whomever He wills, and Allah's bounty is immense!” (57:20-21)

“Your craze for more and more and mutual rivalry for worldly gains has made you heedless, 1 until you reach the graves. 2 By no means! Soon you shall know! 3 Again (note it well) by no means! Soon you shall know. Nay! Had you known with certainty of knowledge (the end of this way of life you would never have acted thus). You shall certainly see Hell. Again (note it well that) you shall most certainly see it. Then, on that Day, you shall certainly be called to account for the blessings and comforts of life. 4” (102:1-8)

(6) Hearts fill with love of Allah not world

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6420:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The heart of an old man remains young in two respects, i.e., his love for the world (its wealth, amusements and luxuries) and his incessant hope." (wa tool al amal)

Quran on this topic

“Let them eat and enjoy life, wayul'hihimu and diverted them l-amalu hope. They will come to know!” (15:3)

The time is not far when the same people who have today refused to accept (the Message of Islam) will regret and say, "we wish we had surrendered to it!" Leave them alone to eat, drink and be merry and to be deluded wayul'hihimu by l-amalu false hopes. They will soon realize it. We had prescribed a respite for every habitation that we destroyed before this. 2 No community is destroyed before the expiry of its respite nor is it allowed to survive it. (15:2-5)

(7) Hope incessant never ending guard against tool al amal

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6420:

Narrated Abu Huraira:

I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The heart of an old man remains young in two respects, i.e., his love for the world (its wealth, amusements and luxuries) and his incessant (never ending) hope." (wa tool al amal)

“Let them eat and wayul'hihimu and be diverted (enjoy life), and let l-amalu (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know!” (15:3)

(8) Life a closed square can’t hope outside it

(4) CHAPTER. About hope and hoping too much (for long life and worldly pleasures);

And the Statement of Allah; "...And whoever is removed away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful..... (3:185)

And also the Statement of Allah; "(0 Muhammad) Leave them to eat and enjoy and let them be preoccupied with Wa Yulhihimu Al-'Amal (false) hope. They will come to know!" (15:3)

And 'Ali bin Abu Talib said, "The world is going backward and the Hereafter is coming forwards, and each of the two has its own children; so you should be the children of the Hereafter, and do not be the children of this world, for today there is action (good or bad deeds) but no accounts, and tomorrow there will be accounts, but (there will be) no deeds

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6417:

Narrated 'Abdullah:

The Prophet drew a square and then drew a line in the middle of it and let it extend outside the square and then drew several small lines attached to that central line, and said, "This is the human being, and this, (the square) is his lease of life, encircles him from all sides (or has encircled him), and this (line), which is outside (the square), is his hope, and these small lines are the calamities and troubles (which may befall him), and if one misses him, an-other will snap (i.e. overtake) him, and if the other misses him, a third will snap (i.e. overtake) him."

(9) Life Hereafter Real life

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6413:

Narrated Anas:

The Prophet said, "O Allah! There is no life worth living except the life of the Hereafter, so (please) make righteous the Ansar and the Emigrants."

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6414:

Narrated Sahl bin Sa'd As-Sa'idi:

We were in the company of Allah's Apostle in (the battle of) Al-Khandaq and he was digging the trench while we were carrying the earth away. He looked at us and said, "O Allah! There is no life worth living except the life of the Hereafter, so (please) forgive the Ansar and the Emigrants."

(2) CHAPTER. The example of this world in contrast with the Hereafter and the Statement of Allah:

"Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. (It is) as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers - evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers - good-doers). And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment." (57:20)

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6415:

Narrated Sahl:

I heard the Prophet saying, "A (small) place equal to an area occupied by a whip in Paradise is better than the (whole) world and whatever is in it; and an undertaking (journey) in the forenoon or in the afternoon for Allah's Cause, is better than the whole world and whatever is in it."

Quran on the topic

This is Allah's bounty which He bestows on whomever He wills, and Allah's bounty is immense!” (57:20)

(10) Life in the world no more than a waiting room

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6416:

Narrated Mujahid:

'Abdullah bin 'Umar said, "Allah's Apostle took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler." The sub-narrator added: Ibn 'Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death."

Translator’s Note: This means, 'Do good deeds when you are healthy and alive before you become sick and die.'

(11) Little place in Paradise better than whole world

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6415:

Narrated Sahl:

I heard the Prophet saying, "A (small) place equal to an area occupied by a whip in Paradise is better than the (whole) world and whatever is in it; and an undertaking (journey) in the forenoon or in the afternoon for Allah's Cause, is better than the whole world and whatever is in it."

Quran on the topic

(12) Lust kills Tukasar

(10) CHAPTER. The Fitnah (trial and affliction) of wealth should be warded off.

And the Statement of Allah; "Your wealth and your children are only a trial..." (64:15)

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6435:

Narrated Abu Hurairah:

The Prophet (s) said, "Perish be the slave of Dinar, Dirham, Qatifa (thick soft cloth), and Khamisa (a garment) for if he is given, he is pleased; otherwise he is dissatisfied."

Translator’s Note: This invocation is against the one whose concern is just to amass money and enjoy the pleasures of the world.

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6436:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

I heard the Prophet saying, "If the son of Adam (the human being) had two valley of money, he would wish for a third, for nothing can fill the belly of Adam's son except dust, and Allah forgives him who repents to Him."

Translator’s Note: The idea of death in this Hadith and the few preceding ones is expressed figuratively by the idea of filling one of the parts of the human body with dust.

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6437:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "If the son of Adam had money equal to a valley, then he will wish for another similar to it, for nothing can satisfy the eye of Adam's son except dust. And Allah forgives him who repents to Him." Ibn 'Abbas said: I do not know whether this saying was quoted from the Qur'an or not. 'Ata' said, "I heard Ibn Az-Zubair saying this narration while he was on the pulpit."

Translator’s Note: This expression is a metonymy meaning, man continues to love wealth till he dies, for then he will no longer think of collecting wealth.

“Your craze for more and more and mutual rivalry for worldly gains has made you heedless, 1 until you reach the graves. 2 By no means! Soon you shall know! 3 Again (note it well) by no means! Again (note it well that) you shall most certainly see it. Then, on that Day, you shall certainly be called to account for the blessings and comforts of life. 4” (102:1-8)

(13) Make best of health and time one has to earn good in Hereafter.

(1) CHAPTER. Health and leisure (free time for doing good deeds). There is no life worth living except the life in the Hereafter.

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6412:

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas:

The Prophet said, "There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) Health and free time for doing good."

Translators Note: This means that many people do not use their health and free time, in gaining good from doing more and more of good deeds.

Quran on the topic

“Your craze for more and more and mutual rivalry for worldly gains has made you heedless, 1 until you reach the graves. 2 By no means! Soon you shall know! 3 Again (note it well) by no means! Soon you shall know. Nay! Had you known with certainty of knowledge (the end of this way of life you would never have acted thus). You shall certainly see Hell. Again (note it well that) you shall most certainly see it. Then, on that Day, you shall certainly be called to account for the blessings and comforts of life. 4” (102:1-8)

(14) Perish slave of Dinar wealth

(15) Pious people will depart Warning

 (9) CHAPTER. The righteous people will depart (die).

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6434:

Narrated Mirdas Al-Aslami:

The Prophet (s) said, “The righteous (pious people will depart (die) in succession one after the other, and there will remain (on the earth) useless people like the useless husk of barley seeds or bad dates, and Allah will not care the least for them.”

(16) Prophet (s) warned worldly riches will astray mankind

(7) CHAPTER. The warning regarding worldly pleasures, amusements and competing against each other for the enjoyment thereof:

"Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. (It is) as the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers - evil-doers), and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers - good-doers). And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment." (57:20)

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6425:

Narrated 'Amr bin 'Auf:

(an ally of the tribe of Bani 'Amir bin Lu'ai and one of those who had witnessed the battle of Badr with Allah's Apostle) Allah's Apostle sent Abu 'Ubaida bin AlJarrah to Bahrain to collect the Jizya tax. Allah's Apostle had concluded a peace treaty with the people of Bahrain and appointed Al 'Ala bin Al-Hadrami as their chief; Abu Ubaida arrived from Bahrain with the money. The Ansar heard of Abu 'Ubaida's arrival which coincided with the Fajr (morning) prayer led by Allah's Apostle. When the Prophet finished the prayer, they came to him. Allah's Apostle smiled when he saw them and said, "I think you have heard of the arrival of Abu 'Ubaida and that he has brought something." They replied, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle!” He said, "Have the good news, and hope for what will please you. By Allah, I am not afraid that you will become poor, but I am afraid that worldly wealth will be given to you in abundance as it was given to those (nations) before you, and you will start competing each other for it as the previous nations competed for it, and then it will divert you (from good) as it diverted them." '

Bukhari Volume 8, Book 81, Number 6426:

Narrated 'Uqba bin 'Amir:

The Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayer for the martyrs of the (battle of) Uhud and then ascended the pulpit and said, "I am your predecessor and I am a witness against you. By Allah, I am now looking at my Tank-lake (Al-Kauthar) and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that after me you will worship others besides Allah, but I am afraid that you will start competing for (the pleasures of) this world."

(17) You will be with one whom you love

Bukhari Volume 9, Book 93, Number 7153:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

While the Prophet (s) and I were coming out of the mosque, a man met us outside the gate. The man said, "0’ Allah's Messenger! When will be the Hour?" The Prophet (s) asked him, "What have you prepared for it?" The man became afraid and ashamed and then said, "0’ Allah’s Messenger! I haven't prepared for it much of Siyam (fasting), Salat (prayers) or charitable gifts but I love Allah and His Messenger." The Prophet (s) said, "You will be with the one whom you love."
